I guess the anonymous nature of bugs is part of the cause of the growing hype. If you leave a gap in information speculation becomes inevitable, hence we hear that bugs is actually another successful artist in his super-hero costume, which may or may not be true. I certainly don't know if it's true and if people do know they are keeping mum about it. As a strategy anonymity certainly helped the myth of Banksy. People love secret knowledge.

There's no way there is a big name artist behind Miss Bugs. I think it is misleading that it has been suggested by some of the galleries selling the work. If you like the art then that's cool but don't buy if you think someone big's behind it. It's just the latest piece of forum hype. As they say, don't believe the hype.

I think Paul's doing a good job forging his own career without 'fiddling' with Miss Bugs

there was a time when people thought dolk was banksy!!! jee-f**kin-sus you're kidding. the reason everyone has flopped their cocks out is the firstly the quality of the art i.e. A1 the small editions and the fact it is hand finshed and each print is unique . the consistantly good strong images everyone wants to be a part of the next big thing the complete overpriced s**te coming out from POW for well over a year now and lastly after a few months of slow burning interest a diamond carrot a/p sold on ebay for well over a grand this generated interest and several threads about miss bugs were posted on the forums which attracted i dare say a few flippers (although no evidence of that so far) and a few people who hadn't heard of miss bugs before. it's good stuff and I enjoy looking at it.

Just a guess. But I think the guy is Paul Insect. Eh? I dont believe its Banksy, insect, Hirst or anyone already 'Big' in the art game.. I believe its a an older artist ( along with someone else) who learnt from mistakes 1st time around & are now just giving the market what it wants. 2008 was always going to be the year for originals & hand finished prints and Miss bugs pretty much nails both.

it's good stuff and I enjoy looking at it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that, so just out of interest what do you see in this work? Because I see the same old rehashed and recycled cliches that I see in 90% of Banksy-influenced 'street art'. In addition, the deliberate Chinese whisper campaign regarding the identity of the duo is laughable. To resort to such tactics is desperate.

i had a WOAD that was very nice, however, the white screenprinted splats on the background really pissed me off for some reason, so i let it go a while back, before the price boom

The question is, who started the rumors, and why? First part of the question - no idea. Second part is obvious - hype and £££.

The question is, who started the rumors, and why? like someone else said it's chinese whispers which started from the fact Banksy bought a Miss Bugs original from stella dore before Christmas.

it's chinese whispers which started from the fact Banksy bought a Miss Bugs original from stella dore before Christmas. So it's transmogrified from Banksy buying a miss bugs to Banksy being miss bugs, or was the rumor already in place before Mr B's purchase? I heard a rumor that there's a rumor going around...

I can pretty much confirm that MissBugs is not already a big name artist. An art dealer from a big shop/gallery who has been buying my work said to me...
"If you have any other images or ideas you want me to take a look at just bring them in. Thats how MissBuggs started, he just showed me some stuff he was unsure of and it started from there"
That was a rough quote that was said to me last week.
Another person from the same place said...
"MissBugs is a guy just like you, he has a regular job and is doing art in his spare time"
imbue.

The question is, who started the rumors, and why? Miss Bugs him or themselves started the rumour before their or his very first print. Worked didn't it?

if the rumours do turn out to be true (which there is good reason to believe they are)...then you can expect prices on Miss Bugs pieces to skyrocket even further on ebay......great images, and definitely worth hanging onto if you get one

Same s**t, different day.
Yeah Miss Bugs is good, but you can guarantee everyone who is saying they are the next Banksy rubbish etc owns their prints and wants their stock to rise in value.

Not saying they are the next Banksy....but that....well, there's more to it than that... this is not the same s**t.....when Diamond Carrot was first released, Miss Bugs started a thread on this forum regarding the print, and it was then when he/she/they first started the whole, "guess who?" thing about them...making it out like they are other artists in disguise (well, at least one artist plus a "lookout") Nobody can say for sure, but in the case of Miss Bugs, it definitely isn't the same s**t..... IMO

Imbue, what you said seems to destroy the rumor... which it seems they started themselves. Does anyone on here definitively know that the rumors are true?
