Art Insurance in the UK, by atomone on Jun 7, 2019 12:47:49 GMT 1, I'm considering this too after a friend of mine was getting their house renovated and noticed that the guys were scammers and caught one of them filming his Banksy's whilst in his house...
Hiscox is on my radar too and I think it's something like £150 per year for £50k worth of art...

Art Insurance in the UK, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Jun 8, 2019 5:28:46 GMT 1, I bought a Banksy at cost and got paranoid after the prices went up. Paid for a proper appraisal from an art company on the insurers list they research and inform the insurance company of it’s current value. Then I pay a little extra every month on top of house contents to cover it.
Two years ago some teenage ice addict kids broke into my house, the muppets walked straight past the Banksy and my wife’s purse 😉 got my keys and stole mys**t Ford Focus sport.. I was praying they would crash it and right off as the gear box was dodgy. They did, the little feckers crashed into a ditch 👍all got arrested. Biggest bonus was car was worth $13k and My amazing wife insured it for $16k, got paid out in full.
Don’t risk not insuring..

Care to share who you ended up using?
Also any info on the pieces value with the associated premium... trying to get an approximation for what a (hopefully soon) incoming piece will cost me each year to protect.
Thank you

I use Ultimart Insurance: ultimartinsurance.co.uk/
I have about £70k covered and it costs around £340pa but it’s much more comprehensive than household insurance. It also covers new acquisitions, shipping and covers when art is with 3rd parties so pretty good value.

Art Insurance in the UK, by alk on Feb 17, 2020 15:30:09 GMT 1, Has anyone had any experience making an insurance claim?
Asking more about household/personal property claim and not a shipping claim.
Cheap prices are great, but would like to know which companies in the US actually pay out when it comes time.

Prob common sense to you all but just thought I’d share. I also pay next to nothing for USAA’s art insurance fwiw.

Agreed, but expensive is relative They've never screwed me over since I've had them, so hopefully my vintage Stella bottle is in good hands!

Art Insurance in the UK, by poofly on Mar 16, 2020 15:57:50 GMT 1, I have my art insured under my normal house insurance (based in the UK) but have been advised that it might be cheaper to have my art listed under a separate specialist art insurance policy.
Does anyone have any dealings with specialist art insurers? or know of any....

There are plenty of threads about this if you just run a search.

I use Hiscox after recommendations from this forum. Easy blanket cover on all art work and no need to list artworks unless over a big value item. Never had to make a claim, but they are good at taking your money😉

I would like to know which insurance you took to insure you art collection and would also like to know how you define the price of a piece for the insurance and in case of issue how you can ensure that the insurance will reimburse the actual price and not the buying price.
Thanks in advance

Art Insurance in the UK, by John The Badgers on Sept 21, 2020 18:46:50 GMT 1, As above Mtntomtom, Hiscox the way to go depending on the value of your collection?
I've been through this exercise recently where my conventional house insurance starting to get inadequate/expensive, hence insuring independently with Hiscox.
I would add here, on your point as to value, this is important as basically you have to advise how much cover you want, and that's what you are 'protected' for.
If you were to make a claim, they will reimburse you for the cost to replace the item lost/stolen. This pertinent if you are going by auction sales to justify the value which is reasonable enough.
You therefore need to allow for the auction fees (circa 32%), as this justifiably needs to be added to the hammer price, to establish the cost to replace the item.
Can I also add, with Hiscox you have to differentiate between art works, and books, these are classed separately.

Art Insurance in the UK, by disturbart on Sept 22, 2020 9:26:36 GMT 1, With Banksy prices rising, what is everyone doing now with regards to home and art insurance?
I am aware that you can take out art insurance with companies like Hiscox fairly easily with art collections up to £200k fairly easily for around £500.00 per year.
However when you tell your home insurance company that you have an art collection in the house worth £200k then they will not insure you for contents insurance that covers your other belongings even though Hiscox are insuring it?
What is everyone doing now? Any advice please on how to get these two aspects of insurance to work together?
