Hi guys, First of all, I've just started making stencils, 2 days ago to be precise and I really enjoy doing it. I've made two stencils and have tons of ideas so i thought it would be nice to show my work to you guys . This was a test on cardboard (Sonja refers to a 'famous' dutch diet guru, it isn't that funny but all I could think of ) BTW, I know the outlines are purple instead of black, but they screwed up when I bought it, i did ask for a black one. Yesterday 'eve I went out spraying this one, and another one (of which I don't have a pic, yet. Its a stupid dutch politician in purple and white with a red clowns nose) in my town. So what do you guys think about this stencil, any advice? Thanks, GVD

Thanks ! I've just designed my signature, it turned out really nice (after a couple failed attempts:P) It reads GVD, which are the first letters of my first and surname and its a abbreviation of godverdomme which means goddamnit in dutch. Hope you like it!

No sorry, haven't got the chance to take an pics of them yet. But I'm designing a new one, you know the famous pic of Marilyn monroe with her dress blown upwards? Well I'm taking that photo but I'm putting a burka on Marilyn so it looks like a lady with a burka walks onto an airvent (?) and her dress is blown up (not with an explosion ;D ) But its really hard to make a stencil of it, because it isn't to clear that her dress is blown up. Do you guys have any tips?

After the Marilyn Monroe burka catastrophe I started working on a new stencil. I imagined some men in chemical suits carrying a spraycan. The results are quite nice, but it will be a b**ch to cut . what do you guys think about it? thanks, gvd BTW anyone else having trouble getting on stencilrevolution.com?

Thanks, uhm i loaded the image in photoshop, then removed the background, then desaturate, and then I used the threshold option. It works way better than contrast an cut out filter. I also used the threshold option on the head and hand alone to make them clearer.
btw, does anyone knows how to print this in photoshop in multiple A4? So I can tape them to the cardboard an cut it out.
Thanks
GVD

I posted how to do this in the 'your stencils and art' > 'my stencils' topic a while back take a look........
this is exactly what you do (with most photoshops)
file > print preview
untick 'center image' in the postion box
type in size you want your image i.e. H = 45cm in the 'scaled print size' box
with the cursor drag the picture in the left-hand (A4) box to the postion you want to print.
print
drag the picture over so you can print the second bit and so on.
sellotape, cut and spray.

BH - Threshold - is in the Image, Adjustments menu. It's a function that converts colour or grayscale images into B&W. Very useful

I've never used the threshold tool -- thanks.
Usually I just desaturate the picture, then play with the contrast. make a new layer, select shadows, fill the shadows with black and then hide the background layers.
I think I will give this threshold button a try

oh yeah, works a beut! I usually either convert to grayscale and use the cutout filter or convert to grayscale and pissball around with the brightness and contrast.

Thanks for all the replies you guys! Yeah the threshold option is way better then the cutout filter and brightness and contrast because your more in control. BTW i forgot to say this but after the threshold option, I use the Gaussian blur tool. So the edges are smoother. I think the cutout filter is more useful for small things because when I tried it on this one and the Marilyn in burka it looked really bad. taco, yeah i thought about that, but if i do that, i think that the it wouldn't fit in with the G and the D. But I'll give it a try !

threshhold is the s**t, i use it for a specific part of the image, copy and paste that part to a new project, then undo the original threshhold, repeat till the image is what you want.

I use threshold for mine but do it in small increments - just take single portions of the image, like the eye, and do that section and then move on. It will give you much better results and better control of how things look. Of course your eyes are your best checkers and I always do several passes on the printout with a pen to make sure everything fits right. oh yeah, works a beut! I usually either convert to grayscale and use the cutout filter or convert to grayscale and pissball around with the brightness and contrast.

Jup exactly what i do! Btw I made a new stencil yesterday because I wanted to practise large stencils so I made something easy. The cutting was pretty hard but the results are worth it . But i cant spray it this or next week because i'm going to Rome. what do you guys think?
