Big thanks to the artist for giving a s**t and ousting this TW4T. Time someone made it onto a few mailing lists methinks, perhaps beastiallity.com would be a good place to start! I think we owe it to this guy to at least ensure his email accounts are no longer usable!

The people on the Obey forum think there is more to this story. They are saying he was a member over there and had several positive interactions with people. Plus the gluing on of things to an original seems odd anyways.

It really does seem strange that he'd goof with a real one... unless he was trying to provide more continuity between the pieces he was selling. Maybe this guy was doing this for another reason on top of making a few bucks. It seems like a pretty straight-forward knock on Bast's work, especially the idea of collaging some nudey pics and Disney catalogues on a book page to sell it for 3x the original cost. Worked on Bast's site and on ebay, didn't it?  Anyhow... I love Bast's work, so don't take it that way.  |

I bought 2 of the fake Bast art cards on ebay and i just wanna say thanks to the Bast ny crew for getting me all my money back

The guy emailed me afterwards and admitted he sold me fakes claimed "he was a victim" but he sent me provance in way of a receipt from Bast ny which I forwarded to them and they confirmed was mocked up forged receipt with his name on it, so he's caught bang to rights
Respect to Bast ny for sorting this out

Now tell me, who in their right mind is going to drop $$$$ on an artist and also go out of their way to pollute the artists market with Fakes. There is more to this story.

To give an example from an urban art context, there are many people who make their own custom Fairey pieces, gluing them to wood, putting varnish on em, cracking em, etc. and saying they are fine art pieces. Those people still buy real Faireys, yet they still make their own grey market/black market ones to sell, just like this dude who counterfeited BAST. |

I just can't understand why someone would mess with originals. Or, screw with a market that you were buying in to by buying a painting. It's just crazy! Hey, if he did it then I'm happy he got caught. I can't tell if there was one person involved or two. It looks like Leo has been on the boards reading this stuff, he just isn't responding to it.
