scarey stuff aint it, imagine being able to look on the POW site and say, "oh, good its pay day, I think I'll get myself an original canvas today" Madness indeed! £34.99 for a golf sale anyone?

I remember thinking "Pfthh, an extra £100 coz it's signed, even £45 for an unsigned is taking the piss..." I'll just print them out on my computer and that'll be practically the same thing..... to be honest I still think £145 is bloody pricey when you actually think about it...?

Then you don't really understand how much work goes into these prints. And how much time it takes to get a run signed off. Let alone other overheads the presses have. Retro I remember thinking "Pfthh, an extra £100 coz it's signed, even £45 for an unsigned is taking the piss..." I'll just print them out on my computer and that'll be practically the same thing..... to be honest I still think £145 is bloody pricey when you actually think about it...?

Compared to him there will probably never be a next "big thing"

I'm sorry but I just can't keep this link to my self any longer.... Thank me very much! I did the screen captures at the time and put them back on the web last fall: hem.bredband.net/b152220/banksy/pow2004/I've posted the link a few times here on the forum.

Well let's be honest the printing overheads aren't why these prints are the price they are. I've bought many multicolour screenprints for £20 odd, and if POW could do the for the prices shown on that old pow screen shot back in the day, the only increase in £££ is Banksy's wallet! But hey Supply and Demand i suppose... Obviously if i could buy a signed banksy for £150, there would be no hesitation, maybe no food on the table that night, but definatly no hesitation... I'm just gutted cos I remember almost buying a "laugh now" then but aborting at the credit card details...

I wonder how many of the POW staff bought the signed prints and especially the canvasses at the time? Although I suppose they had no more Idea what would happen to Banksy than us?

Depressing. :-( Was never aware of POW 'back in the day', but I was an occasional visitor to Art Republic in Brighton around that time and can recall some of these pieces when they were 'affordable'. Was mildly interested and did consider buying a couple of prints but was too easily disuaded by my wife and thought the Art Republic approach a liitle 'hard sell'. So had the opportunity, but just didn't quite 'get it' at the time. IDIOT!! Of course, like some of the forum members on here I'm weeping in my beer now. Anyone got a working Tardis I can borrow for a couple of hours?

Well I was there back in the day and bought a Copper and a bombhugger, I wanted signed but thought at the time ( should have asked!) that there was no signed and that Banksy signed his prints by the stencil in the bottom right hand corner. I remember picking up a Heavy Weaponry at SG ('04) and having a real good look at it thinking that it was cool but given the fact that it was spray paint on canvas that it wasn't worth £300ish squid. ( I didn't give enough thought to the originality of the image but concentrated on the painterly effort involved... probably not realising what goes into the making of a stencil!) Now that is bad enough but the same week i went along to Tom Tom and enjoyed the Banksy modified Oil paints exhibition but was put off the price tags of £1,000 a piece!!! I own 10 prints and a painting by Banksy ( more than any other artist and I have been collecting bits and pieces for 20+ years ) I am very happy with what I have but there's sometimes the thought, well I wish I'd done this or that!!!

this has got to be the most upsetting piece of info i've ever read !!
Thing is my brother has lived in Bristol for yrs and told be back in 2003 about Banksy . I had a cursory glance and thought , yeah it's all nice but that was it !!
I have now paid the price of my ignorance by paying over the odds on ebay over the last little while . At least however i do now have a flying copper , napalm , grannies , applause and flag.
Just a shame i just spent all my money on beer back then and thought they were just nice but expensive posters !!

I Remember a friend buying a rude copper (Signed I think), getting IT home and Blue tacking it too the wall with not one little bit of care and certainly no gloves, In those days it was an expensive print that most thought of as a poster, more gutting is the fact that I believe the print got thrown away a few months after and replaced by a gash athena print of some kind
