No New Releases, by monochrome on Feb 20, 2007 14:56:49 GMT 1, simple - you buy stuff you don't like because you can make easy cash on ebay. it's obvious.
it's one up from being an ebay ticket tout in the food chain.
it's like watching a herd of wilderbeast. i like banksy, but the rest of POW's stock is simply shite so why buy it?

No New Releases, by goffy on Feb 20, 2007 14:58:39 GMT 1, I managed to see the Insect and McLaughlan prints when still available, didn't like them, didn't buy them. I wonder how many people bought the prints just because they could! Not all but I'm sure by a lot of one week collecters.

No New Releases, by stylus on Feb 20, 2007 15:02:52 GMT 1, I don't entirely agree with that as a sweeping statement. I made a swift decision to buy, but given a week to decide I would still have bought the same prints.

if it wasnt for its 'core customers' of which i am not (wish i had been) they wouldnt be trading anymore!
these are the customers who have bought prints and paid thier bills for years while they have been building the business up!

As a comparison - other galleries give previews to their 'faithfull few'. With POW its every one for themselves... Which is a good thing - I'm all for fairness.

No New Releases, by CR on Feb 20, 2007 15:18:59 GMT 1, just because they dont give previews to the people who have purchased in the past doesn't mean they are fed up selling to the people that have bought lots of prints and want to try and sell to different people - which is what you are saying!

agreed but they didn't just 'pass by' did they. They SOLD OUT in 1 - 2 mins!
and people say that panic buying isn't taking place!

No New Releases, by afwi on Feb 20, 2007 15:24:56 GMT 1, It is true that galleries organize private viewings, which is unfair for the rest of the world. But they know who is buying and have a way of controlling - to a certain extent - the second market. The clients invited to these viewings cannot resell as soon as the show has ended or they will not have access to this "primary source" for a long time. And some galleries request that clients concludes a no resell contract.

Considering their code speak eg, nothing new today, something soon and stuff appearing 3 or so hours later, your answer doesn't mean a thing.
It's like lawyer speak isn't it, as far as we are aware it's safe to move away from your computer, but don't sue us if it catches fire or you move so far away from it you get run over by a bus.

I won't say they are 'fed-up' with the core.. Those being your words. But in order to expand their market segment they have to
a) Sell to new customers b) Restrict sales (1 print per person) - which is a good thing. Keeps the ebay scum away.
Back to point a) - point b) helps. But in order to gain new customers they need to find new ways to release materials. Because at the moment POW is a real 'cash cow'. If the same old bunch consume all prints - real growth will be stunted. Current customers will always go back to POW for new prints. As for 'new customers' these are the life-blood of ALL businesses.
Afterall there a hell of a lot of 'unsold' prints on POW... Wonder who will be buying those... Will probably be the new costomers.

No New Releases, by slowmo on Feb 20, 2007 15:30:16 GMT 1, Private viewings tend to be for art that costs a lot of dough (private gallery, ie LAZ, 'Jude come over this afternoon, I have something you may like') or is completely unavailable (public galleries looking for donors to support), POW falls into neither category, so I understand why they just throw it up and may the fastest finger win.

No New Releases, by CR on Feb 20, 2007 15:34:39 GMT 1, but its not may the fastest finger win, if they said 'this week we will be putting up for sale banksy's trollies on 21/02/07 at 13.00'
then it would be fastest finger first but at the moment its luck of the draw if your by your computer when they come up or if you can afford to sit by your computer 24/7!
i'm all for first come first served but for that you need to confirm when it will be released and stick to it. even if they said it would be released for sure on the 21/2/07 then at lease you would have a reasonable 12 hour period where it would be released!
