Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by met on Dec 3, 2019 9:49:13 GMT 1, the background of this one from the same Poll Tax riots seems to fit the style of skyline, traffic lights etc from the original Banksy painting.
inefficiencyof โ A quick follow-up.
I resized and cropped the poll tax riot photo you found with the skyline, and flipped it horizontally:

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by met on Dec 3, 2019 18:01:34 GMT 1, There will often be overlap between the two, but in some cases with Banksy artworks, it's fair to distinguish:
(i) the original inspiration; and
(ii) the source imagery.
The photo below falls more into the second category. I'm also just guessing it's the relevant source image โ there isn't certainty on my part.
__________
Russian communist revolutionary leader, Vladimir Lenin (1879โ1924), addressing Vsevobuch servicemen at Red Square, Moscow, 25 May 1919. Photo probably taken by the Russian Telegraph Agency (ROSTA), later replaced by TASS*.
["Vsevobuch was the programme of compulsory military training undertaken by men in Communist Russia. It was introduced in 1918 to provide men to fight against opponents of Bolshevik rule and continued until 1923. The scheme was re-introduced in the Second World War after the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union."]

CORRECTION WITH APOLOGIES:
Source image for the Banksy is another painting, not a photograph.
Vladimir Serov (Russian, 1910โ1968), V.I. Lenin proclaims Soviet power
The setting for this work is Smolny Palace, Petrograd (then capital of Russia) on the night of 7 November 1917 at the Second All-Russian Congress of Soviets of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies. It follows the carefully-timed armed insurrection which had begun earlier in the day in Petrograd โ by the Bolsheviks against the Russian Provisional Government led by Alexander Kerensky.
Serov painted at least three versions of this October Revolution piece. The original in 1947 depicted Joseph Stalin, Felix Dzerzhinsky and Yakov Sverdlov standing on the tribune behind Lenin. That painting was considered so important it was gifted by Soviet officials to Mao Zedong.
Following the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1956, during which the personality cult and dictatorship of Stalin were denounced by Khrushchev, Serov was apparently ordered to exclude Stalin and the other leaders in future paintings of the scene, and to replace them with representatives of the working people.
Vladimir Serov, V.I. Lenin proclaims Soviet power (possibly 1954)
Vladimir Serov, V.I. Lenin proclaims Soviet power (date unknown, possibly 1962)
Banksy, Red Lenin, 2007 (flipped horizontally)
NB: There are contradictions with many of the details, images and corresponding dates available on the internet for V.I. Lenin proclaims Soviet power.
In particular, given:
(i) the popularity of these pieces; (ii) the fact they've since been reproduced many times by other artists; and (iii) the general confusion with (and unreliability of) information online,
I am not confident about the dates of the above two Serov works โ or whether Serov himself even painted those specific versions.

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by lha on Oct 8, 2020 0:35:37 GMT 1, [...] Not Sure on this one but its the closest i can find (May-68.-6th-arrond-Boulevard-Saint-Germain.-Students-hurl-projectiles-against-the-police.-Bruno-Barbey) [...] There is one thing we can say with a degree of certainty about the Flower Thrower / Love is in the Air imagery featuring the single thrower (various designs used for street work, record company illustrations, fine art canvases and prints): The direct inspiration would be another painting by Banksy himself, created circa 2000โ2001 and shown at Peace is Tough โ the 2001 joint exhibition with Jamie Reid held at The Arches* in Glasgow. Not sure about the title of the piece, though it might be called Riot. __________ Regarding the inspiration for that initial painting, it could be any number of riot scenes in a large city. Looking however at the architecture, the style of street furniture (such as the traffic lights, signage, and 'Keep Left' traffic bollard *), and the clothing worn by the rioters (including a baseball cap and an Adidas tracksuit), my guess is that the source photo(s) was/were shot in the UK and probably around the 1990s โ as opposed to Paris in May 1968. Although not an exact fit (even when taking into account changes to the cityscape over the last two decades), the background buildings do remind me of London's Square Mile โ near the Royal Exchange, the Bank of England and Mansion House. Here's a photo showing the Bank of England along with the Royal Exchange: The LIITA thrower was taken from this Susan Meiselas photo

Aha! Thanks Lee, thatโs a great find. I was wondering if it was a re created pic but looks very much like an original. My understanding was that the Meiselas image was the basis for the thrower, however the image youโve posted looks as though the thrower comes directly from it. Interesting - will delve further! Which website is the image from Lee?

No arguing that the composition is similar, however, Fowlers nose up goal celebration was because he got the all clear on a drugs test...the copper was probably bang on it ๐คฃ

A local skateboarder passed away and his friends set up a lil shrine at the skatepark. Someone put this poster/advertisement there as a part of it. I don't know what it is advertising or where it is from but I recognized the image immediately.

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by Lroy on Apr 11, 2021 11:44:12 GMT 1, Turf war is Churchill obviously but this is actually the inspiration which was a demo years ago on environment or global warming or something. Cannot actually remember but this was a classic pic from it As I remember there is also a pic of the guy who did it as he was putting it on. This pic and the situation/event also explains the title of the piece May Day demos used to happen in central London every year back then. The Churchill Mohican was done in 2000. Impressive ! I saw other pictures, but the 1 and the 3 are awesome ! allo WCP ?

Iconic stuff that wound up all the right people. That said, there seems to be more of a fuss these days. We've definitely moved towards the Right in the last 20 years, Politically. It is sad to see.
