BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Terry Fuckwitt on Feb 7, 2020 11:59:45 GMT 1, I agree with Churchwood, i think the drones are ace. Thats what i applied for from GDP but with no luck. I have to disagree with Manty100 on them being imcomplete, i know they have been displayed with another pic underneath but i think just as a reinvention of the old 3 flying ducks on the wall they work on their own Like you, I'd rather have them without the pic, then you have the fun of doing it yourself. Also, the welcome mat doesn't come with the life jacket as displayed... do people see that item also incomplete? People just want it all, perfect signatures, picture to accompany the drones, I expect next they'll want Banksy to come over in person and discuss the concept in full over a glass of wine 🤣
Yep, just to add that the drones have been displayed with different pictures in the past, so they are a stand alone piece.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Terry Fuckwitt on Feb 7, 2020 12:03:25 GMT 1, Just throwing it in here, I am not that keen on the glitterball helmet but the duck and cover drones, now that is something I could get excited about. Just not sure what I would do with said helmet, whereas with the drones, just the design and size makes them much easier to display - just saying - I have neither anyway :-( I love the Glitterball what's not to like? You can wear it, hang it, Put it in your downstairs nightclub, see yourself in it, warm your head with it, protect yourself with it, weld stuff with it. go to violent protests, Ride your bike with it etc Drones? where's the pic that should be with it? its an incomplete artwork
Not sure what gdp prints you picked up manty, but aren't these incomplete works. Flower thrower has no body and rat has no clock.

I imagine the Banksy ones are by war boutique. I can't see he would have ripped off Banksy so blatantly without having something to do with them originally.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Charlesworth on Feb 7, 2020 12:10:46 GMT 1, can anyone remember their parents or granny have these on the wall?
Was the old three flying ducks on the living room wall just a British thing? Did Americans and other nations follow the fashion too?

Wouldn't be have to deny it though? He also had the dismaland piece as well, which I don't think was credited to war boutique.

I suppose we will never know the truth then. Just seems odd for him to release the met balls at the same time the GDP ones are being sent out.

Perhaps he's just making folk aware of where the idea came from originally? The Met Peace vests by WB have been around for well over 10 years as well as his work with decommissioned police helmets and riot shields.

I didn't realise war boutique had actually made them before Gdp. If that's the case then I would say he either sold the idea to Banksy or has some bigger involvement than we all know. Why was the postman pat van at dismaland not credited to war boutique? Did war boutique ever comment on that at the time?

I think it was always well known that the Met Peace badges and vests were WB, and Banksy just used them with permission (or as a collaboration) in his Bristol show.
These Met Ball's are a different thing though. I'd assume commissioned by Banksy... but then I have no idea why WB would release a batch of his own too. Seems very strange.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Inknart on Feb 9, 2020 16:20:03 GMT 1, Found this forum via this thread, read a lot of it over a few work lunches and decided to join. I think the "Unlimited" editions has been discussed, but I wanted to add something else to do because it's the only bit I can't quite work out. Why say "Unlimited" if they weren't unlimited? (As at this point it looks like they aren't - which is fine! I'm okay with this it makes sense) But, why not say "500 Cans"? "800 shirts" etc. The legal speak in the terms and conditions and the "This is not a proper shop - it is an actual shop, it sells stuff and offers refunds and complies with data protection" implies all this is completely solid in terms of compliance with regulations etc. (As expected of course) So, why not say if the items weren't unlimited? Broadband companies have often gotten in hot water over advertising plans as unlimited with limits in the terms and conditions eg: www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2020/02/asa-ban-vodafone-uk-ads-for-misleading-unlimited-data-claims.html The answer is simple. Banksy doesn’t operate like most and wants to give back to people who cannot afford high end art and get it into there hands. He uses misdirection by possibly labeling very limited as unlimited to find those individuals and make there day.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by chefd on Feb 9, 2020 22:30:26 GMT 1, Realistically I wonder how many people actually went for the cheapest items.
Out of the +400k orders that seemed to have been placed, a large percentage were probably voided for multiple entries and breaking other rules.
Then how many people looked at the prices of say the Banskiat and thought, if I'm lucky enough, I can stretch to that?
Could it be possible that only a couple of hundred people may have actually ordered the spray cans or the t-shirts and didn't disqualify themselves?
Out of everyone I showed the GDP site to and applied for something, not a single one went for anything but a print/sculpture. No cans, t-shirts or mugs.
Though I love the mugs, I couldnt bring myself to go for that over the chance at a Thrower triptych.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Fish on Feb 9, 2020 23:17:42 GMT 1, I have to agree. I went for the thrower as it’s probably the only time I would Ever get a slim chance of having one on my wall. I too often wonder how many people went for the spray cans because the odds where massively against them with the top items.
I’ve been reading all your comments on this thread since the October and there’s some funny guys on here I log on every day to see who puts there delivered item up next.

I know you are being disingenuous for the reason we all (insert comment) You for
GDP
GDP free bits of paper with art on them
The exhibitions and shows
The low cost books
Stuff you can/could download for free from his site
The Walled off hotel and goods for sale
The wall, the gift shops that sell all his stuff
WCP and all the other dudes
When his prints were available they were at around 6 x lower than secondary, this stopped mainly as people started beating other people up in queues
His street art
Post cards
Peckham rocks
Things like t shirts and mugs blah blah blah
Show me a few artists that do it better?
I look forward to it, i'll even help
Here's one to start you off
Sweet toof, though his art hasn't really got any secondary market but I do like his stuff
The answer is simple. Banksy doesn’t operate like most and wants to give back to people who cannot afford high end art and get it into there hands. He uses misdirection by possibly labeling very limited as unlimited to find those individuals and make there day. This is one of those things banksy fans give him way more credit for. There isn’t much proof that he “wants to give back to people who can’t afford high end art” I know you are being disingenuous for the reason we all (insert comment) You for GDP GDP free bits of paper with art on them The exhibitions and shows The low cost books Stuff you can/could download for free from his site The Walled off hotel and goods for sale The wall, the gift shops that sell all his stuff WCP and all the other dudes When his prints were available they were at around 6 x lower than secondary, this stopped mainly as people started beating other people up in queues His street art Post cards Peckham rocks Things like t shirts and mugs blah blah blah Show me a few artists that do it better? BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by 'bric on Feb 10, 2020 13:25:09 GMT 1, Banksquiat (black) arrived this morning. Received email last week from shipping company asking to confirm details. Arrived next working day (today). Flat packed, not rolled. Signed lower right, edition number (x/300) lower left with POW stamp. Printed on black paper that seems a good bit thicker than other Banksy prints. Won't be removing from packaging any further until I get it to the framers so can't confirm too much else right now.

Not sure you understood the original post and my response and key part to it.
99% of the stuff you listed isn’t “high end art”. My comment was in response to The statement that he gets ‘high end art in people’s hands who can’t afford it’.
Everything you listed is all fine and dandy and great but does nothing to refute my claim or back up the previous one.
Lots of artists do small things and probably to a better extent then banksy. Sure his scale and publicity is unmatched but the intimacy isn’t there as It is with other artists.
So back to the original post:
Here’s my tally for the last ten years of banksy getting high end art in those who can’t afford its hands. please add to the list if I missed anything.
- POW sales end 2 release Commentary: was this really banksy? Was this pow? Was this banksy just approving them to sell them now? Or did he not really have much to do with it?
- GDP releases Commentary: advertise thousands of works and deliver a hundred maybe (For now).
- charity guessing games Commentary: there’s been two of these?
- he paints a mural on your wall Commentary: not sure this should count
- his last print release - in what 2012? Commentary: although at that time I’m not sure I’d say his prints were ‘high end art’
So I’d say maybe 600 items max of high end banksy work has made it to the fans who can’t afford them since his last print release.
I will stand by my original comment in response to the claim that banksy gets high end work in those who can’t afford its hands.
