Christie's Post-War Auctions June 25/26th London, by Graham H on Jun 14, 2019 12:54:49 GMT 1, I just cant get my head around that estimate for what is no way one of his better images..
Im in no way the font of knowledge, but since the Shredded Balloon stunt there has been a noticeable jump in gallery and auction pricing on original works.. with figures just being plucked from thin air, add some on top, add a bit more on top and hope to catch a buyer being my experience in the last couple of months whilst investigating trying to add something
It was obvious with prints now getting into the ยฃ100k bracket for more than just GWRB there would be an upward original price shift.. but it does seem ambition of auction houses and galleries is making this happen
This estimate, in my opinion, is an example of that.
Just for thought, the ยฃ800k top estimate below is similar to what the one off, iconic GWRB piece was selling for in the auction that got shredded.. and the images are no way comparable ( again, just my opinion )

Christie's Post-War Auctions June 25/26th London, by irl1 on Jun 14, 2019 13:12:45 GMT 1, Hi grahamh i'm glad its just not me but i think the Mona Lisa one looks terrible. The estimate is crazy
Then you have the "other one", see lot 333 below
Would you want to pay that kind of money knowing there was another one like it?

Christie's Post-War Auctions June 25/26th London, by Graham H on Jun 26, 2019 8:45:53 GMT 1, Thats a price i cant quite get my head around. Large piece agreed.. but hardly a classic as i said earlier. But what do i know.. they set the estimates and were pretty much bang on.
Where will it all end?

Christie's Post-War Auctions June 25/26th London, by JJN on Jun 26, 2019 9:47:56 GMT 1, Compared to where Kaws prices are Banksy is a bargain.
Can't possibly be Kaws who is the figurehead of urban Art in this generation, can it?

Can't possibly be Kaws who is the figurehead of urban Art in this generation, can it? 100 % agreed.... the biggest different is that Kaws has the far est art market in his hand, smart moves by Kaws moving there years (10-15??) ago and well loved in that market.
to my opinion much more soul on Banksy art than kaws.. if only i can i'd rather buy an original by Banksy.

Christie's Post-War Auctions June 25/26th London, by silvermyn on Jun 26, 2019 10:32:26 GMT 1, The weak ยฃ means that these pieces were relatively cheaper for foreign buyers. I can't help but think that if it wasn't for Brexit we'd be looking at slightly more realistic (from a UK perspective) pricing.
Not trying to turn this thread into a Brexit discussion, just saying you can get more ยฃ for your $ these days.
