Christie’s will sell a Jonas Wood painting, by Deleted on May 3, 2019 16:20:15 GMT 1, I don't understand the appeal of this artist..can someone that really loves his work explain what you like about it? I know it's hard to put stuff like this in words, but I'm really curious. Prints look like something my nephew drew in third grade..

Christie’s will sell a Jonas Wood painting, by jbelleit on May 3, 2019 16:29:09 GMT 1, I just think he has a weird vibe going...that's what I like. "Hmmm...I think I will paint what my old 90's speaker looks like with a few plants and a little tiger." I like that he thinks outside the box. I am sure when Picasso put out a few of his prints, people were like WTF?

I like his still life's and landscapes, and how he uses his sense of colour, shape, pattern and form to transform ordinary scenes into something extraordinary. Also, how he plays with perspective and planes in his interior paintings and how they relate to memory. The artistic synergy he has with his wife, the playful inspiration he takes from his kids' ('third grade') drawings. It's all very wall friendly and has a timeless, universal appeal.

Charming art with a flattened perspective. It’s like looking into another dimension. I find it easy to associate positive feelings with his work.
I wouldn’t even call myself a fanboy. Just acknowledging him as a good artist.

I believe it's crucial for us to always be ready to articulate why we like particular styles, artists or pieces.
Anyone incapable of doing so (or who needs to fall back on references to the market, critical acclaim or institutional recognition) hasn't bothered to think enough. In which case, they should refrain from describing themselves as an art enthusiast.
[Alberto Mugrabi showed everybody how not to be a collector. His key appearance in The Mona Lisa Curse is painful viewing — and also a must-see. Mugrabi looks like a fool out of his depth when Robert Hughes asks him pretty basic questions relating to his family's collection.]
