Love his work. Yes.

Jonas Wood • Speaker Still Life Print, by Winter on May 4, 2019 18:45:47 GMT 1, Interesting how the pot in the original is an oriental goldfish pot and the speaker was painted in his flat style. For the print a less ornate pot was used and what looks like a photographic image of the speaker.

Exactly what I thought doesn’t work on the print (the speaker). It is basically a poor representation of a speaker photograph. I’m all for mixing print mediums but this one just misses the mark in person. Looks really faded. Almost an afterthought or an early proof of a final version.

Imagine paying $18k for a print for 40% of it to be a computer generated image of a speaker. The original is far better and true Jonas Wood, that’s what the buyers should have been getting. Shame

It could be the light - maybe it is a test print in the shop. Possibly a test? Not sure why Gagosian would display a test print though. As far as the lighting.. it is in the back of the shop and lit properly displayed behind museum glass to cut any glare. It genuinely just looks washed out (the speaker in particular). I had the same reaction of “really?” Especially given the release price. One thing is for certain is that the color corrected image that Cirrus had represented on release is NOTHING like the finished product. Shame as the original is so good as have been their other releases.

I don’t own any of them personally. That’s why I shared the images of the other prints with the same lighting in the same room. They all look stronger to me as well.

We’re all 21 books on display at the shop?

Jonas Wood • Speaker Still Life Print, by rbt on May 12, 2019 17:45:39 GMT 1, Also saw the speaker print. Image looks very flat. Almost like the speaker was a pigment print - and then the remainder of the print was a silkscreen and lithograph. There’s no hand-drawn nature to the speaker. Looks like a digitally reproduced image.

Much like the Cirrus 2014 large pot series, where the pot had a lithograph scene in it. Photos here don't do it justice. Hockney also did lithograph/screenprints.

Jonas Wood • Speaker Still Life Print, by Deleted on May 13, 2019 22:47:28 GMT 1, One thing about Gagosian Shop is they never tell the truth. It's possibly the worst run art store in NYC. Also pretentious as f*ck.
All the Jonas Wood book covers and prints were sold to their VIPs before the show; books started around $2,500. They had about +/- 20 made or being made. Honestly these ones aren't nearly as great as his previous ones but that's personal opinion.
The managers of the stores and galleries at Gagosian will help you and know what they are talking. Anyone else you talk to at Gagosian shop or galleries in NYC are completely clueless on everything and you really shouldn't listen to. They are waste of space and time. Always say things they don't know or just straight up fabricate. Make sure you talk to the main people at Gagosian and not the front desk or even sales people at the store they will mislead you greatly.
