The one that got away, by kuni on Apr 17, 2019 13:47:38 GMT 1, I thought it might be interesting to hear about the pieces that got away aka the one's you slept on, almost purchased but passed on, went hard for but were outmaneuvered on, the one's you sold right before the artist took off, and the art you still think about how you almost had.
Two come to mind for me, but neither of them really keep me up at night, and I'm sure there are much better stories out there:
1. Oli Epp's Carpe Diem. Thanks to this forum, I learned all about Epp and was excited about his first print release. If I'd been on my game I would have picked one up at release, but forgot all about it (I think I was out of town). By the time I realized it, it was too late. I would have loved to have Carpe Diem on the wall.
2. I was purchasing a POSE print from a forum member, who mentioned that he was also selling Kaw's Presenting the Past for what now would be considered a steal. I didn't have enough dry powder to purchase it, so I reached out to my brother and we were going to go in on it together. After much debate, we passed on it, and couldn't justify spending the $6k or so that he was asking. Whoops...
Again, I'm not loosing any sleep over of these, but they're all that comes to mind. Anyone have some stories about the one that got away?

The one that got away, by Express Post on Apr 17, 2019 14:07:50 GMT 1, The question should be what people are passing on now. What might seem like poor value now because the artwork doesn't flip for more on secondary, could be the next best thing. It's about going out there and looking at as much art as possible.

The Paranoid Pictures edition from Santaโs Ghetto, but also a larger original with a bird holding a hand grenade... donโt know what it was called... just too expensive for me at the time (think it was ยฃ6k)
... also countless other regrets!!

Changed mind later - only had unsigned.
Decided I really wanted it signed so ended up with neither.
Doh !

I definitely need to get out more and open my eyes to other emerging artists then the ones talked about on here.
Anyone anyone suggests looking at?

Anyone anyone suggests looking at? There are a ton of artists with originals still at a reasonable price, and less than prints from many of the artists discussed here. I love seeing what Jonni Cheatwood is doing, I know one of the forum members recently picked up a canvas from him. Kind of reminds me of Eddie Martinez. I also like Brandon Lipchik, who I discovered following Oli Epp on IG. I've inquired about a canvas from Brandon and they're not totally out of this world price wise. But yeah, I feel like local art shows and instagram are the discovery tools for me.

It's incredible to think that you could have just strolled into AR and picked up a signed GWB for 150. So much has changed - you've got relatively no name artists selling out $500-1000 prints in minutes. Everyone looking for the next Banksy.

Then passed on it later in the after market after I (more accurately my wife) deemed it too exepnsive at the time (think it was 5k maybe less). Now i will never own it. She has since allowed me to trust my taste

She sells them $ 200,000 a year later.

While mine isn't as glorious as those pieces listed above, I would say not being selected for POW's last release of the Banksy "Sale Ends Today" sucked. Oh...and getting beat out (though right there) for Invader's RVE...

Even more recently just over a year ago those Ai Weiwei hands (editions of 1000) sat there for a reasonable amount of time for ยฃ600 at source.
They fetch anything between ยฃ4K-ยฃ6k depending which auction house you use

We were about to meet in the middle when a work I had just bought from them (ยฃ10k) arrived damaged. Long story short they refused to accept it was damaged prior to crating and I had to fork out on my own art insurance cover. Needless to say we did not conclude the other deal. No names but one of the top houses worldwide. Canvas is probably worth $400/500k+ in todays market but worse still I will probably never add a Condo to my collection as that ship has sailed.....

This always ends up being a list of what everyone owns.

i didn't buy S&S because the white thumb error was bothering me, and now i feel dumb for being so picky since i love the image itself.

The one that got away, by kapusta on Apr 17, 2019 18:30:35 GMT 1, Mine are a bit less exciting, but 3 that come to mind are:
- Stik "Liberty" in yellow that I nearly bought for $1k but felt it was too much/not worth the price.
- Parra "Cannonball" just keeps evading me. The last couple on ebay got snatched before I could react. The only other collector that's currently selling one has doubled his asking price in the past couple years. I should have bought it before that. Still kicking myself... - An OG by Michael Reeder from 2017. I reached out to the gallery and they offered me the piece and said "Let us know ASAP as we have a lot of interest." I emailed back within 15min with asking a question about shipping before committing and they sold to another collector instead. Huge bummer
