Henrick Simonsen, by Opus Underground on Nov 5, 2007 11:58:30 GMT 1, Just thought I would share some of the Henrick Simonsen originals which we currently have hanging in our gallery ;D For those who doen't know Henricks work he is originally from Denmark but now lives in Brighton where he shares a studio with Antony Micallef. He is interested in the process of painting and he never removes a mark from the canvas to each piece tells a story as pencil markings and working outs trail across the canvas!
Forget Me Not, 2007, Oil & Graphite on Canvas, 39" x 53", ยฃ5,875.00
Red Garden, 2007, Oil & Graphite on Canvas, 53" x 39", ยฃ5,875.00
Garden of Memories, 2007, Oil & Graphite on Canvas, 53" x 39", ยฃ5,875.00
Midnight Garden, 2007, Oil & Graphite on Canvas, 53" x 39", ยฃ5,875.00
As always I would love to hear what you guys think and if anybody is interested in his work we also have some smaller pieces available so drop me a pm and we could work out a forum price!

Henrick Simonsen, by pezlow on Nov 5, 2007 12:13:59 GMT 1, No offence mate but aren't these a bit boring? I have no idea about the artist having not heard of him before but those prices seem very high. If you want a canvas similar to this you can try the work of Sumiko Seki which is about 1/4 of the price.

Henrick Simonsen, by numusic on Nov 5, 2007 12:34:23 GMT 1, Very nice for what they are.. what are they ? pictures of flowers ? No disrespect, but why do you think this artist has any relevance to this board.. or am I missing something ? Well, apart from the " he shares a studio with Micallef".. I share a studio with an heavy metal freak, not something I'd use as a sales pitch though. This is very very very conservative work no ? almost the opposite of the type of work we discuss. Technically it's very good...but so is a LOT of young graduates work. Can't see the point really, sorry.

Totally agree... I see that this kind of art is more and more being mentioned and promoted here on Banksy forum. Yes it is a public forum - fair enough. However I don't see any relevance to the street art whatsoever just a opportunity for a bit of PR.

Henrick Simonsen, by Opus Underground on Nov 5, 2007 12:45:54 GMT 1, Thats a shame I thought they went quite well with the non street art style which is often discussed here... His work is very washed out and distressed, mayby they have to be seen in person to fully apreciate them! Thanks for the opinions though ;D

Henrick Simonsen, by Dellboyy on Nov 5, 2007 13:13:02 GMT 1, Not really my style either, but i've no problem at all with artists like this being advertised here, if this was a street art only forum there would be no micallef or francis here just to name a couple!

Henrick Simonsen, by numusic on Nov 5, 2007 14:16:20 GMT 1, Nuart - I'd be interested to know what you think of the new xenz prints?
Ya know... i like Xenz work, always have done.. and I can see why the question could be related to the more Henrik Simonsen flowery decorative works...after all, colourful humming birds and blossoming trees are not exactly "urban" right.
But he does work in an urban environment and I think context is everything here..even though he's obviously developed a pretty amazing technique with the spray can. I remember a story from being a kid, about how pet budgies and exotic birds couldn't survive if they escaped, not because of the climate, but because all the other "urban" birds would gang up on it and kill it because of it's colours. I though it was really sad. Probably bulls**t, but it's an image that's stayed with me and something that I think Xenz's work expresses really well. These really beautiful creatures and landscapes in rough urban areas..surving, flourshing, beautifying and maybe giving hope....He's an artists who's given something to a community for years and asked for nothing in return. Proper street art IMO.
