Sweet Afton
1791
Flow gently, sweet Afton! amang thy green braes, Flow gently, I'll sing thee a song in thy praise; My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream, Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream.
Thou stockdove whose echo resounds thro' the glen, Ye wild whistling blackbirds in yon thorny den, Thou green-crested lapwing thy screaming forbear, I charge you, disturb not my slumbering Fair.
How lofty, sweet Afton, thy neighbouring hills, Far mark'd with the courses of clear, winding rills; There daily I wander as noon rises high, My flocks and my Mary's sweet cot in my eye.
How pleasant thy banks and green valleys below, Where, wild in the woodlands, the primroses blow; There oft, as mild Ev'ning weeps over the lea, The sweet-scented birk shades my Mary and me.
Thy crystal stream, Afton, how lovely it glides, And winds by the cot where my Mary resides; How wanton thy waters her snowy feet lave, As, gathering sweet flowerets, she stems thy clear wave.
Flow gently, sweet Afton, amang thy green braes, Flow gently, sweet river, the theme of my lays; My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream, Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream.

Harland Miller • Poetry is Dangerous for your Health, by Aubrey 245 on Feb 10, 2018 0:59:36 GMT 1, Not a 'typical' Harland Miller, but still a very beautiful piece in my eyes. Edition of 30, obviously signed, 60x70 cm... Great piece overall and a lot closer to his common work than the stated Charles Addams piece I think...
Thanks for sharing amberley

Harland Miller • Poetry is Dangerous for your Health, by Coach on Feb 10, 2018 2:24:45 GMT 1, Truth is like peotry, and most people f**king hate poetry. That is one ugly c**t of a print. When the f**kdid this place turn in to Artchival?
Strong words. Maybe most people are not fussed about poetry. But hate it? Probably not. Many love it. Some even write it. At first glance I wasn’t keen on this print. But on second and third look I decided that I do like it very much. As with many (most, maybe all) Miller prints the beauty (perhaps overstated I’ll grant you) is the humour in the words, and in this case the juxtaposition of the commentary on poetry being on a ciggie packet. I’m not saying your dislike is wrong. I’m probably saying that your hyperbolic dismissal of it is, though I’m always uncomfortable suggesting so, when to an extend such things are subjective. Regardless, I think this is not the best Miller, by a long way, but it is a fine print, at an astonishing price in view of the cost of his other prints.

Friend that knows the gallery well said they made a mistake and it's a huge run, they made a simple mistake.
That's a lie too. Still bitter. It did change from Sold Out to Out of Stock. That's legit and very meaningful. sigh.

On a related note, do you think there is any significance to the "weet" being much more pronounced that any other text on the print? It definitely draws your eye, just don't know if there's meaning there, or if that's just how it ended up.

Harland Miller • Poetry is Dangerous for your Health, by andyroo0312 on Feb 11, 2018 5:58:08 GMT 1, Super pumped to have picked this up, especially if it’s actually signed too. Added bonus. Added bonus if it is signed? So you were willing to spend £900 for an unsigned Harland? Sometimes you guys do make me giggle.. This print is signed and numbered. Released by whitecube a few months shy of 5yrs ago. Release price £1000 +vat so that is £1200 for any uk or eu members. After white cube it was available thru the Robert Burns Birthplace museum and have sat there getting dusty. Well done to members that scored one but I do hope that the Scottish crew that missed get hooked up by a fellow forum member that grabbed one more out of impulse than a love for the great poet Robert Burns. I have worked in Scotland and know first hand the importance he holds on the Scottish heart.. ODE TO A HAGGIS
Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face, Great Chieftan o’ the Puddin-race! Aboon them a’ ye tak your place, Painch, tripe, or thairm: Weel are ye wordy of a grace As lang’s my arm
The groaning trencher there ye fill, Your hurdies like a distant hill, You pin wad help to mend a mill In time o’need While thro’ your pores the dews distil Like amber bead
His knife see Rustic-labour dight, An’ cut you up wi’ ready slight, Trenching your gushing entrails bright Like onie ditch; And then, O what a glorious sight, Warm-reeking, rich!
Then, horn for horn they stretch an’ strive, Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive, Till a’ their weel-swall’d kytes belyve Are bent like drums; Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive Bethankit hums
Is there that owre his French ragout, Or olio that wad staw a sow, Or fricassee wad mak her spew Wi’ perfect sconner, Looks down wi’ sneering, scornfu’ view On sic a dinner?
Poor devil! see him owre his trash, As feckless as a wither’d rash His spindle-shank a guid whip-lash, His nieve a nit; Thro’ bluidy flood or field to dash, O how unfit!
But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed, The trembling earth resounds his tread, Clap in his walie nieve a blade, He’ll mak it whissle; An’ legs, an’ arms an’ heads will sned, Like taps o’ thrissle
Ye pow’rs wha mak mankind your care, An’ dish them out their bill o’fare, Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware That jaups in luggies; But, if ye wish her gratefu’ pray’r, Gie her a Haggis!

Harland Miller • Poetry is Dangerous for your Health, by Poppy Sunshine on Feb 11, 2018 9:04:59 GMT 1, Hopefully HM will come up with a new print with my favourite Burns poem on it.
Johnie Lad, Cock Up Your Beaver
When first my brave Johnie lad came to this town, He had a blue bonnet that wanted the crown; But now he has gotten a hat and a feather, Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!
Cock up your beaver, and cock it fu' sprush, We'll over the border, and gie them a brush; There's somebody there we'll teach better behaviour, Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!

Not the strongest Miller, but not the weakest either, a notch above Charles Adams and the cheaper giclee releases.
