Hi there, 

i purchased a obey icon offset print from eBay which I received today. I had pre bought a 24”x36” frame from ikea to put the print in but when I went to put it in the frame I realised the print was too big to fit. I have checked on a number of sites selling the print which all say the size is 24”x 36”

I’m not sure if this is a normal thing for print sizes to vary in size or not & im starting to question if it’s genuine. Has anyone got a copy of this print that I could see some photos on to compare. 

Any help would be appreciated as im a bit of a UAA noob

Maybe the frame isnt exactly 24x36?

I've never had an issue with Obey prints fitting in the frame, both sizes are framed at home and all but one was a store bought frame. What is the measurement of the print you received and any pictures showing how it does not fit?

The print is 25”x 37 7/8”

My other concern is that signature in the Ebay ad photo is not the same as the print I have received

I have contacted the seller asking them where they purchased the print & they told me this:

“I didn’t purchase it, he gave it to me. I was in Shepard Fairey’s studio in LA & he told me to help myself to some prints. I took two of those”.

I’m sure there is a possibility this could be true but there was no mention of this on the listing. If the artist had personally given me a print I think that is something I might mention when selling the item.

I don't like "the artist gave it to me story", you paid with paypal? What's was the price? Any pics of the print / the signature?

Ok thanks. I didn’t find this when I looked. So maybe my print is genuine then?

I had seen that it’s was available for $30 from the USA. But I wasn’t sure if I would be hit with import tax charge?

It’s not unusual for the odd obey print to not be the exact size.
The Jaws print is an example of one print (18x24) that didn’t fit an 18x24 frame exact.

Indeed, the signature looks like several of mine. Also, not sure many would go through the burden of faking a 50 quid print tbh - but you never know, with a higher IQ many criminals would change line of business :-)

that signature is real

It makes no sense why you would choose to pay £50 + £8 shipping NOT from the source instead of $30 (roughly £22) + shipping FROM the source. Are import fees on a £22 item really over £30?

Thank you for everyone’s input. Yes in hindsight maybe it would have been a better idea to buy direct. As I’d seen the same print for sale in Nelly Duff for £90 I thought £50 was a good deal. I’ve spoken to the seller & they are happy for me to return it. Lesson learned.
