Why can't I burn purchased music to CD?, by breckjensen on Nov 7, 2017 10:42:46 GMT 1, Hello everyone
I discovered that I couldn't burn any Apple Music tracks to a CD (which is fair enough, I suppose, since I'm still on the free trial), so I decided to buy an album that I had already listened to via Apple Music, thinking that, since I now owned the album, I could burn it to CD.
But when I dragged the tracks from my Purchased playlist into a new playlist and clicked "Burn Playlist to CD", I got a warning telling me that some of the tracks were Apple Music and couldn't be burned. So, I went through my iTunes library and made sure that all M4P tracks by that artist had been trashed and deleted, making sure that the tracks I then dragged to the playlist were all standard M4A format.
Still no joy. The same warning that some tracks were Apple Music was displayed. I've checked. they're not.
How do I burn a CD of tracks I've legitimately purchased and downloaded through iTunes?
Please help.

I suspect that the problem is DRM (Digital Rights Management) that Apple Apply to the music it supplies. In the early days of digital music sales everything has DRM applied and could not be shared, burnt to CD etc
Its less prevalent now but still around
My answer to how to deal with this is not to buy music from Apple (or anyone who still uses DRM)
There will be specialist music retailers (eg BLEEP for electronic music) who supply the music DRM free and then you can switch your music between formats including CD

They did this under the premise of your right to copy your music for you and your families own enjoyment (legal battle already fought in the era of recordable cassette tapes)

If you dont mind my asking, what are you tryin to burn? I have had similar issues with apple in the past. For future reference, purchasing from amazon or another merchant (like thru the artist's website) seemed to fix this. I used to work at a music store, so I have quite a cd/vinyl collection. What are you looking for?

To make Apple Music playable on any popular MP3 player, the key point is using some special tools like TuneFab Apple Music Converter to convert the locked Apple Music songs to MP3 and other formats.

But probably easier to Google DRM removal tools for your particular OS.

I still tend to burn cd's for the car - have always used Bandcamp - a lot of the music I like is available to buy on there directly via the bands and once purchased, as well as being able to stream from there, you are able to download it too in a format of your choice, mp3, FLAC etc and can then burn it to CD.
