This thread is quality, flipping pre-sale links, seriously? If there was a big release and links are for sale, just remember the Kaws' trainer release where the smart arses 'bought' by hacking into Kaws one. Of course once realised they got nothing.

As to the print, someone needs to have a word with Nick. How can someone with TMA Bristol and Mona Simpson (both classics) in the back catalogue come up with this?

[yeh but if it was an offer for a whatson or dface there would be a chance of a flip instead so it wouldn't be offered and if it was it would be more than the $100 for a Walker that isnt sold out

there are many problems here. but, i'll take a swing at another one...... pricing in general. now that the scene is a scene..it seems the artists are keen to make a good buck as well. in 2006 there were not many prints in the scene selling for over lets say $500 at source. Everything was $50 - $250. so, if you just kind of liked it .. whatever .. for $100 i'll get one and put it up for a while and sell it on for $50 or $150 in a year or two .. didnt matter much. what was cool and fun was having new art coming through all the damn time. I am sure there were times i had 10 tubes stacked around.. Now its about pre sales, and flipping and $500 is basically a joke price now.. $9000 for an invader? $50,000 for a Banksy. ok, sure NW .. go for the $500. if they sold this print for $85 and a pack of stickers i could see 50 people with girldfriends or wives that loved shoes grabbing these. why not? whats the risk. its just fun. not every piece of art will be an instant classic. $500 for this - well, now come on it is '1/2" sustainable Birch' so maybe that makes it all make sense back in the day he would have at least given it a proper ass shot. can i say that here? come on man - moona lisa gets an ass but louboutins dont? you put a proper derrier on a louboutin piece and its going to sell out at $250 .. no worry there. $500 is still hard. you could get two more 2012 Fairey prints that you never plan to frame for $500. and that would make totally more sense. right? or no. i'm confused now on the point i was making.

No you bring up a good point.  Pricing has really gone up and artists now are capitalizing off of it.  Can't really blame em.  But really, these pre-sales and low editions just create more buzz and hype.  It really reminds me of the sneaker hype back in the day where people would line up for days for exclusive sneakers.  Nike killed a lot of the hype by producing more sneakers, though.  It's much harder to flip now unless supremely exclusive.

But back to the topic, bubble is all about supply and demand.  The bubble is created by limiting the supply so that the demand grows.  And when it's a seller's market, all kinds of crazy things can happen.

Like you I'm dumbfounded at $50K Banksy and $10K invader.  Think another factor is there's a lot of cheap debt out there,  People are making a killing off of the stock market so more money to go around.

The only difference between this and flipping the print after it launches is the middle man is making less money. And taking less profit off something you never wanted in the first place is no better than buying it then trying to resell.


The best part: You know people aren't gonna be clamoring for this release, but you're trying to profit by hyping the potential bunfight, pretending it'll be hard to get one. Way to take advantage of the community.

Just saying that I get the method.  Lets say it was $200, I'd actually consider it.  It's either I pay double or triple from a reseller or get nothing at all.  If I loved the print, I'd pay the $200 and save myself money, time and patience.

I think you're missing the point. Whether or not people are into his work (some are, some aren't,) the practice of coming here and trying to take money out of people's pockets because you found a backdoor link to buy a print is a pretty shite move.

If it was me with the info and if I could be bothered...... knowing I could make money, i would mop them all up myself and sell them for squillions.

Many people have a much higher motivation to do this kind of thing (think concert tickets)

So unless I have to wrong again it can only work for items with no resale value, or for collectors that want to secure the item and don't care about resale
