To float.. or not to float. , by tbresnah1 on Jan 4, 2017 5:48:09 GMT 1, Just got this back from the framer. Not sure how I feel about the float. Initially I thought it would be neat because there are small droplets of paint extending out towards the edges, but idk. Feelings?

To float.. or not to float. , by iamzero on Jan 4, 2017 8:07:09 GMT 1, I think it looks the tits and just how the artist wanted it to look. From the clean lines of your flat you clearly like things in their place so I can understand your issue, but to me if I were to window mount this piece I would know there were specks of paint I should be seeing hidden under the mount. All subjective.

To float.. or not to float. , by Majestic on Apr 7, 2017 18:08:39 GMT 1, Frame choice is everything as I found out when I had mine done. It did nothing for the image.
This on the other hand is clean and sets it off nicely.

To float.. or not to float. , by Iqra'a on Apr 7, 2017 19:19:33 GMT 1, Isn't floating pricey though? Personally I don't think it adds that much to the price if you get it done professionally. Maybe an extra 50-100$, I could be wrong.

To float.. or not to float. , by Jaylove on Apr 7, 2017 19:22:15 GMT 1, To add my 2 cents I feel the frame itself should be deeper with wider inserts to give it more depth. That's just my preference though. All in all it looks good but I guess it doesn't matter if you don't like it.

To float.. or not to float. , by Aza on Apr 7, 2017 19:51:50 GMT 1, I wish more prints didn't have margins, not a fan really. For this one though, I would have boxed framed it to the edge of the frame.

To float.. or not to float. , by loother on Apr 7, 2017 20:02:15 GMT 1, I'm with Aza on this one. I've had a few prints floated but really I prefer traditional mounts or prints framed to the edge, which would probably be the best option with this one. I quite like high floats, though, which look a bit more dramatic.

I float most things nowadays. I like the effect. And I worry too much about bleach marks, from mounts.

To float.. or not to float. , by loother on Apr 7, 2017 20:25:23 GMT 1, I'm also with Aza on the margins thing, which is probably the key issue here. There's the main area of the print, then a neutral bit (the margin), then another neutral bit (the backing, probably not the technical term), then another neutral bit (the frame), and it all adds up to a bit too much dead space between print and wall.
By the way, tbresnah1, I'm being pretty picky here. Your print looks ace.

To float.. or not to float. , by iamzero on Apr 7, 2017 22:04:59 GMT 1, The only thing that bothers me about the spacers sitting on the artwork is if the backing board is pinned it too tight I've seen it leave pressure marks on the paper.

Not to miss an opportunity... I have one I'm selling, never framed and stored flat since I've had it.

I actually like it like this but I get your point. And would also agree that prints without the margin look better floated.
What is that frame called? I see them quite a bit

To float.. or not to float. , by Dive Jedi on Apr 8, 2017 5:05:37 GMT 1, To put in my 2 cents : I think it creates too many squares. The outside of the frame, inside of the frame, space between frame and print, marging of print and the actual image.
IMO the Borg way would be better on this....

Just my opinion

To float.. or not to float. , by tbresnah1 on Apr 10, 2017 15:00:04 GMT 1, Thanks for all the positive feedback! And I agree loother, if i were to do it over, I would choose a much smaller mat/backing because there is a lot of dead space when you look directly at the print. But besides that I'm very happy with how it turned out.

To float.. or not to float. , by The True Cubs Fan on Jul 25, 2017 7:25:44 GMT 1, I think it looks beautiful. The spacers kind of make up for the larger space around the print, so while I agree I would've made the spacing a little smaller around the print, I think the spacers balance it out!

To float.. or not to float. , by aki on May 7, 2018 16:40:21 GMT 1, I’ve got these two
Both by misterframeman the en pointe was purchased already framed and I notice how close the edge of the print is to the inside from edge 10mm I think. Anyway when you look at it you hardly notice the gap between print and frame. Just got the dancer back framed the same way. The op has quite a big gap between them.
On the other hand I got this back where I specified a bigger gap but the the dark mount helps here.
Thoughts?
