Anyone else getting bored by urban art?, by d.r. perseus on Jan 11, 2019 4:27:29 GMT 1, Can you define "urban art" for me as it seems to be pretty big tent at this point. When this place went from being the Banksy Forum into the Urban Art Association, the term "Urban Art" got some very hostile reactions. At the time, it was clear most of the art couldn't be called "Street Art" so "Urban Art" was the only option, but as you say it's a big tent and can describe a large range of art coming from all types of directions.
On some level urban describes the collectors now more than artists, imo. Not urban in the street sense but urban in the culturally aware young to medium aged professionals that frequent cultural centers and events more likely to live or visit cities rather than the countryside

Anyone else getting bored by urban art?, by kalm on Jan 15, 2019 3:14:33 GMT 1, Well, here in the States - I swear phish heads are responsible for most of the flipping in the print scene these days. I’ve been collecting prints for 25+ years and it was never this saturated...by saturated, I mean people who will buy just to flip and make money...they have no morals or ethics and most are taught to do any and everything from a young age to make a buck. NYC area rich pukes were the catalyst. They now jump from artist to artist pretending they LOVE their work just to flip it and make money...once the hype dies down they jump to the next artificially hyped artist (by the same people who flipped now in the “gallery” setting), hoard their prints and act like it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. Like cockaroaches, they bleed the Artist and fanbase dry of resources. Luckily, the economy is turning for the toilet and nobody is spending their obnoxious asking prices.
