Puts me off not knowing the edition size. does the final edition size on these type of things get comfirmed? Not sure it will huge because a small time frame, I think a lot of people won't realise until it's ended
The Geddes timed edition's usually run north of 1000 and they are shorter times - time wont be much of a factor in the edition size in this instance, itl be the price! Sure the release will be more that well touted in the usual places!
These kind of releases always bug me - £200 for a timed release that could end up an edition of thousands, or a kind gesture from the artists allowing many more fans to own some of their work? Personally, unless all or some of the profit is going to charity I would steer clear - however good the image or how much I like the artists work. This kind of selling devalues what is an exceptional print.
while i certainly enjoy the limited edition appeal.... an occasional timed edition is always a great way to get the art into fans hands (and to expand the fanbase). i just think the price point is off on this one. i don't think it is going to attract the borderline or casual sandra fan. either way, i'm not too crazy about the muted colors of the new stuff. just looks like some weird crap on her face. i'm sure the detail shows better in person, but it still doesn't have that pop.

full bleed giclee? don't think i've ever seen one. kinda strange, no? usually only screenprints.
My guess is they print it, then cut it. Printers would do this with any print that bleeds I would assume, or it would all be very messy?
my comment was more towards print display and framing. giclee inks are easily damaged, rubbed, smudged, scuffed, etc. while screen prints don't suffer the same fate. a full bleed makes mattes out of the question, no?
People (lots of them) have payed other artists $200+ for timed editions, without ever questioning it. I don't see why charging an extra $100 is getting everyone's knickers in a knot?! If you don't like it, don't buy it. But to argue semantics over pricing is a little ridiculous IMO.
The simple fact is to "most" people posting the price is excessive for an open edition gicglee - fair enough the exchange rate isn't helping this side of the pond and the additional import taxes just push it beyond what most feel is a fair price.
I'm not a huge fan so its really a matter of indifference to me - but it does have the odour of a cash grab.
An artist is entitled to ask whatever they want - rock bands can charge whatever they want for a gig - but equally everyone else is entitled to go f*** off at that price or decide it represents a fair exchange.
If this was a Faile print would I be buying at this price - probably not for an open edition ink jet print. But then I suspect they'd be half the price
Its not just the image you buy - or we'd all have posters on the wall - you buy an image but when its a screen print you accept a certain level of work went into it - here not so much.
I do really like her work i was torn between buying an original from her or a limited edition print both i am sure would be collectable items.
I do not see anything collectable about this and as others have said it just seems like a money grab does put you off a bit.
But each to there own i am sure for some people this is an ideal release to ensure you get a copy of her work.
She has been churning work out recently i am sure more buying opportunities will arise in the future.
I saw she had an original piece for sale at the recent Saatchi group show it was priced at 7500 pounds sterling. Not sure how this price relates to previous shows ?
That's not necessarily true though. A lot of artists do timed release prints that end up being very collectible. It does really seem to depend on the artist and how well the edition is advertised. For example, if you look at some of the time release prints James Jean has done overy the past year or two, even though they end up with large editions, many of them are very sought after on the secondary market because people either didn't know about the sale or didn't have money at the time and are now trying to track one down. So, being a time release doesn't necessarily mean it's not going to be collectable.
That being said though, while I am a big fan of Sandra's work, I will be passing on this print because I do think it's overpriced.
