Fundraiser for Syria , by Coach on Sept 5, 2015 0:54:27 GMT 1, Our friends on NBF have started a fundraiser for Syria. Much like the fundraiser for Napal, which was quite brilliant, this has the opportunity to be a cross forum effort. They already have some fabulous contributors. Including:
Borf Ernest Zacharevic Fake Kunstrasen Liam Snootle Nick Smith Snik
Hats off to the NBF for organising this. If there are any artists that want to contribute, that would be great. Watch this space for more info.

Fundraiser for Syria , by 11 on Sept 6, 2015 18:12:57 GMT 1, I just want to say that we are right behind such a fantastic cause and encourage anyone looking to pledge any work or make a donation to join in. From the artists already participating it looks like it will raise a lot of money for a very worthy cause.
It would be good if regular updates can be posted here along with an email address, or an appointed member on UAA that can be contacted for people to make pledges to.
I'm in touch with Fed anyway but just thinking an email address might be useful as we get an enormous number of visitors that aren't even registered and will still be able to get in touch to make a pledge

Fundraiser for Syria , by 11 on Sept 7, 2015 12:10:14 GMT 1, For the moment Ive been advised they aren't taking donations of art other than directly from artists and galleries as they want to ensure they have the artists blessing to sell their work (I assume if galleries donate they will contact the artists to make sure they are happy ?)
They will sort out the details of how, what and when and then let us know but in the meantime if you are an artist that would like to donate then get in touch and I will pass on a contact email address

Fundraiser for Syria , by 11 on Sept 7, 2015 16:14:18 GMT 1, just in case some perspective is needed......
Save Syria's Children
[HASH]SaveSyriasChildren
So, Im sure there are many that want to do something or are already part of other initiatives and we should use this thread for ALL related fund raising events associated with the humanitarian issues faced by the refugees of Syria.
If anyone has any ideas or wants to do their own thing you are more than welcome to publicise it here.
If you had intended to donate a piece for a charity auction then why not just list it on eBay and mark it as a charity auction then come and promote it on this thread.
Trying to co-ordinate a auction from a single body has proven to be quite a challenge (i believe) but that shouldn't stop everyone pulling together and we will allow all eBay links posted on this thread to remain (if a link is blocked then speak to a guard and we will find a way around any issues that come up)
ONLY PROMOTE EBAY SALES WHERE THE ENTIRE PROCEEDS ARE GOING TO THE CHARITY OF CHOICE - again if there is just cause to publicise something that doesn't quite fit then have a chat with a guard and just get agreement
We could even agree a little strap-line - such as Art4Aid or something then track all those items and have a running total of what everyone across all forums have raised collectively - it doesn't matter, what really matters is actively doing something - so come on people, let us know what is going on, what we can get behind and what we can do to support your initiatives and ideas.

Fundraiser for Syria , by Bill Hicks on Sept 8, 2015 10:24:03 GMT 1, Dear friends,
Lots of people have contacted us this week asking about the best way to support Syrian refugees. We believe that these refugees are the best people to answer that question and we are working on a campaign to elevate their demands. Ahead of that we wanted to share some thoughts based on our experiences. In Syria, we have heard it time and time again, and unequivocally. To end the conflict, to defeat Isis, and to return to their homes, Syrians are calling for a no-fly zone.
Since the picture of Aylan hit headlines across the world, 6 children have been killed in Syria every day[1] - the majority from barrel bombs and missiles from Syrian government aircraft. But their bloodied and blown apart corpses donโt make the front page of any newspaper. None of the other 10,000 children killed in the fighting have.[2] What broke my heart this week was a cartoon by Neda Kadri, a Syrian artist, that pictured Aylan in heaven being welcomed by children: โyou are so lucky Aylan! Weโre victims of the same war but no one cared about our deathโ. In the light of such massacres, the focus of European politicians on whether or not to accept a few thousand more people feels somewhat absurd.
The war in Syria has killed more than 300,000 people[3] and displaced 12 million[4], forcing more than four million to flee the country[5] -- the UN has called it โthe greatest humanitarian crisis of our era.โ But what is happening in Syria is also a crisis of politics and humanity. Syria is not an earthquake or a natural disaster; these crimes have agents and perpetrators, none greater than the Syrian government which is responsible for over 85% of civilian deaths.[6]
Since 2012 the Syrian government has waged an aerial war against Syrian civilians as a form of collective punishment for daring to ask for the freedom and democracy that people in Europe and America enjoy. As the UN has said, most of the killing of civilians today comes from the government's โindiscriminate aerial weaponsโ[7]. The weapons of choice are most often the barrel bombs -- old rusty drums or containers filled with high explosive, nails, shards and more and which are dropped out of helicopters kilometres up in the sky. They accelerate down on markets, hospitals, schools and mosques. They kill civilians and shatter communities who want no part in the violence. The fear of these bombs drives mass displacement -- 500,000 people fled Aleppo as a result of the aerial campaign in four months alone.[8] Aylanโs family was one of those that fled Aleppo due to the aerial attacks. If the international community continues to allow these attacks, there is every indication that the Assad government will bomb the remaining civilians not under its control out of Syria.
Every barrel bomb dropped deepens the cycle of violence and extremism. The longer Syrians are left alone to face barrel bombs and chemical attacks the harder it is for moderate and peaceful voices to be heard. Left unchecked these barrel bombs will continue to strengthen ISIS and attract more foreign fighters to Syria. That crisis too will explode onto mainland Europe with more terror attacks.
In February 2014, the UN Security Council [in a rare moment of consensus] banned the use of barrel bombs, but since then the attacks have only increased.[9] The Syrian government has repeatedly ignored UN resolutions, and the strong statements and hand wringing from the international community have done nothing to stop the killing. The level of impunity Bashar Al-Assadโs government feels was demonstrated three weeks ago when airforce jets fired missiles into a vegetable market in Douma, killing at least 110 civilians.[10] The attack happened just seven miles from Damascus where the government was meeting the UN's Emergency Relief Coordinator.
The international community can end these attacks. A Bosnia-style no-fly zone could be put in place to stop the Syrian government's airforce from bombing its own people. A no-fly zone does not need to be a major military undertaking. The 67+ country US-led anti-Isis coalition is already flying in areas where the barrel bombs are being dropped.
Right now, too often in the UK, US and elsewhere people who should care about Syria react against a no-fly zone, saying we canโt have any more military interventions. Such a response ignores that fact that the West has already intervened with anti-ISIS strikes. Now weโre asking for the use of force to protect Syrians, not just international security concerns. Second, true solidarity comes from listening to, and rooting your demands in, what Syrians want. So we ask people around the world to listen to the Syrians on the ground dealing with barrel bombs who are leading the call for a no-fly zone -- Syrian heroes like the White Helmets, the medical workers and Planet Syria non-violent activists.
Syrians don't want to be resettled in distant lands or rely on ever-dwindling aid packages. They want what everyone wants -- to live in their own homes in safety and with dignity. A no-fly zone would stop more people fleeing, allow millions to return home and help civil society flourish. Furthermore it would help create the conditions for real, internationally-backed talks.
Whilst European politicians continue to fight over a few thousand refugee places without addressing the root of the crisis in Syria, we will see more and more children washed up on European shores and tens of thousands more children being massacred in Syria. We must all call on our governments to support a no-fly zone.

Fundraiser for Syria , by Dr Plip on Sept 8, 2015 20:43:20 GMT 1, I posted this comment on the other channel, but it can't hurt to say it here, just in case anyone can lend a hand to making it happen.
Anyone in or near WSM that's on good terms with the staff or an artist there? Would it be worth mentioning this to someone there and seeing if we can arrange some artists on site to sign a programme or one of the maps or something? Just thought because Dismaland is quite hot right now. Might be worth asking? They can only say 'no, fuck off'.

Fundraiser for Syria , by mojo on Sept 11, 2015 19:47:14 GMT 1, The fundraiser for Syria has some excellent contributions .... great work everyone.
I have just received this message via the Syria Campaign from Abo Adnan. All he is asking for is a signature, please help.
Dear Jo,
Iโm writing this to you from a refugee camp in Germany. All the Syrians here are so grateful for the welcome people have given us but we want to live in Syria, not Germany.
I was 22 when the fighting started in 2011. I was living in a neighbourhood called Ghouta, a short drive from Damascus. A year after the uprising the regime of Bashar al-Assad placed Ghouta under siege - this means nothing comes in or out - no food, no medicine, nothing. A year after that the regime attacked us with chemical weapons and more than a thousand were gassed to death. For years they have also dropped barrel bombs and missiles on us from regime aircraft. Normally we got struck eight times a day. How could we continue to survive that hell on earth?
I had to cross twenty checkpoints on fake documents to make it out of Syria. Each time your heart stops as you know that there is a chance you will be arrested and taken away. I made it out and survived a death boat. I have survived so many ways a human being can be killed.
At home I was a medical student. We had so many attacks I assisted more surgeries than most surgeons do by the time they retire. My dream is to only have to perform โnormal surgeriesโ, what I trained for, not picking shrapnel from bombs out of children's limbs.
We cannot go back while the war continues which is why we are asking for you to do everything you can to stop the war. All your governments agree there needs to be a political transition in Syria but no amount of words have made it happen. The Assad regime is still in power, killing seven times more civilians than Isis.
World leaders have to act to stop the bombs from the sky. We can survive sniper fire, chemicals but the barrel bombs are unbearable. A no-fly zone or creation of safe zones would save lives instantly. And I would be the first person on the plane home.
Right now everybody in Europe is talking about us refugees. But not many are listening to us. Please sign his petition to Europeโs leaders asking them to do more to stop the bombs and help us return home:
act.thesyriacampaign.org/sign/we-want-to-go-home
Thank you,
Abo Adnan
The Syria Campaign is building an open, global movement working for a peaceful future for Syria. We are people from all over the world who are coming together to tackle what the UN has described as โthe greatest humanitarian tragedy of our time".

We are people from all over the world who are coming together to tackle what the UN has described as โthe greatest humanitarian tragedy of our time".

I just did a search to find the active lots but sure there'll be more up in due course. Not suer when the auctions will be going live but definitely sometime soon
Sorry for the short post - I've just got to dive out but wanted to wish them the very best of luck in raising as much money as possible

Fundraiser for Syria , by Fะฏ on Oct 14, 2015 15:50:21 GMT 1, This is so good of people here but can i ask what is donated by artists directly - its very difficult to tell and will make a big difference to what I might want and how much I would bid. I don't mean to be rude as it says Artists for Syria but I cant tell which artists. I would be disappointed to bid on something believing the artist has donated it and then find out they played no part - is that too obsessive, should I care? I tend to steer clear of these auctions as the people supplying the work usually own other works by the same artist. Charity auctions usually get over bid on, giving them something to compare to when they sell their own works. Its happening right now, no names mentioned.

Fundraiser for Syria , by Aza on Oct 14, 2015 16:17:30 GMT 1, All the artists on this graphic donated their pieces. Some kind members also wanted to help by donating pieces they owned, but that was just a few.
If you're concerned you only want to buy an artist donated piece, use this graphic.

Jeez! It's a charity auction for heavens sake. I would be amazed if people donating pieces (the majority of which are the artists themselves) were doing so for any reason other than to help the charity and the people of Syria.
Dig deep folks, if you can. Amazing effort by the chaps over there.

Fundraiser for Syria , by Aza on Oct 14, 2015 16:45:16 GMT 1, Ah yeah the Borf is from a gallery. Damn that's some expensive advertising he has done there! He should have kept the Borf really, and donated something much cheaper to get maximum advertising value.
