Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by Brushstrokes 75 on Feb 25, 2011 20:32:32 GMT 1, I wish I could find something around that amount because for now, I'm quoted ยฃ2K/year lol
As for the value, I think that it's a tricky one. I think that it's more a replacement value than the real value. How much does it cost to have it made another one. I heard stories for OGs where the insurance company tries to have the artist remake it (if he's still alive) lol

Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by manty on Feb 25, 2011 21:29:08 GMT 1, good thread, i'm trying to figure out how to get insurance. do i need to specify each piece individually? Who values the pieces? ie, the banksy i bought for 450 is trading at just under 4 so I would expect that if it was damaged... If you're in the UK iloveartinsurance / AXA seems to be the best option, or certainly was for me. The only down side is that it covers just art and so you need a separate policy to cover other home contents. You basically choose a category re. the value of your collection (ยฃ0-ยฃ50k, ยฃ50k-ยฃ100k etc) and then click buy. They advise you to keep a full list of your collection but do not ask you to specify what you own, which I found quite surprising. In the event of a loss, I believe you will however need to provide proof of ownership (COA, payment receipt). My next best quote was a lot more than what I paid...
Not right on the contents, mine is included in the AXA policy

Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by mouser on May 17, 2011 17:56:11 GMT 1, Hi, I am trying to organise house / art insurance, the company I am using have asked for valuations for some of my prints ( other companies outright refused to cover).
Who do you use to value the likes of banksy prints? Most valuers dont know their bum from their beejoir when it comes to urban art etc.... I dont have easy access to major cities ( auction houses etc...) any ideas on how to get pieces valued?
Some are covered by recent receipts, but some older pieces are worth alot more now than when they were bought.... HELP!!!!!

Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by Brushstrokes 75 on May 17, 2011 19:04:13 GMT 1, Auction houses can do inventories for free... They come to your house or they do a preliminary one via email. so it would be a good start.
You can hire an appraiser to do it but it will cost you some money (5%-10% of the whole appraised value). By the way, there's a difference between appraised values (what they are worth) & replacement values (what it's worth to replace them). A lot of people tend to give their insurers appraised values when they should be giving replacement value.

Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by wizzy on May 17, 2011 19:34:06 GMT 1, Also Zim certain auction houses will give an inflated price in order to impress the punter so he will enter it into a sale with them, course when it fails to reach the ridiculous estimate they take 1% of reserve so still kerching for them, so although this case is for insurance purposes they may not give a realistic valuation, best to just say its worth what was paid i reckon.

Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by HRE on Jun 27, 2011 19:42:30 GMT 1, wanted to bump this from a long time ago. just renewing my insurance would be grateful for some help
I have got Halifax home insurance, which is pretty cheap i have to say. I have a question to ask you all. You don't need to specify hi risk items that fall under the ยฃ1,500 mark. I have recently acquired some pieces of art work that goes above this bracket. How do I go about getting a valuation on these pieces (preferably for free) to show proof if the worse would happen and they got damaged, stolen etc. On another note, what is the process for insurance companies go through if something got damage, would you have to show proof of purchase? pics of the condition of the works and how do you show them that it is worth x amount in todays/yesterdays market. Any info or help you could give would be great.

I know not the cheapest answer but after all, you will only need it if disaster strikes and if it does do you want ebay to be your data for the insurance company?

Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by gordonbennett on Jul 22, 2013 9:45:05 GMT 1, Good Morning one and all. My family and I are leaving Blighty for a new adventure in the near future. I have a collection of sorts that will need to be insured for the transit. As there are many with far greater knowledge of value on this forum than I have myself, I hope that some reasonable suggestions on the cost of replacing each might be forthcoming. Obviously there is a big difference between ebay/private/gallery prices so am looking for a fair valuation. I would also like to stress that this is not a precursor to an almighty sales thread. My collection is for my enjoyment and hopefully will remain intact for many years to come so that my wife and I have something interesting to hand down to the kids! All pieces have relevant coa's or I am original purchaser. All are in good nick. So here we go................
Banksy GWRB U/S Banksy Napalm S Banksy Laugh Now U/S Banksy Barcode U/S Banksy Grannies U/S Banksy BME AP S Banksy HMV S
Micallef 21st Century Love Micallf Judgement Day Micallef Shibuya Crossing
Adam Neate Cold War David Choe City Girl 150 Andrew Mcattee WOW Paul Insect Kid Matt Small Saul Matt Small Terry
I have a few other bits, but am fairly confident on value as they have been purchased this year.
Thanking you all kindly in advance, am now off to pack up the house!

Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by johnnyh on Jul 22, 2013 14:54:59 GMT 1, GB your insurance mount should be for a replacement value. Most likely area of a quick replacement will be a gallery. So you should insure at Gallery rates.
Do not think you will get the list above from a gallery or an auction at the prices quoted. Epec if you buy at auction and then have to include fees. That would make your signed Napalm at about 3,250 plus fees. Great deal if you get it but doubt you will so think I would add at least 1000 onto that one alone. Hang up gallery want 7,500 for one to give you an idea

Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by gordonbennett on Jul 22, 2013 21:40:07 GMT 1, Thanks Jonny, quite agree. There is always a massive difference between purchasing from a gallery and getting a deal. From my position, if I wanted to replace like for like I would more than likely have to delve into Galleries, therefore prices would include their %. So if that's the case, valuations would be gallery dictated..... which unfortunately makes my premium higher! Such is life! Perhaps I should have said valuation based on Gallery price! Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

Art Appraisal โข Art Valuation for Insurance, by bigp on Oct 18, 2014 13:39:03 GMT 1, What with Banksy print prices going mental over the past couple of years, I thought Id get an early Banksy original valued again for insurance purposes.I got it valued through "value my stuff" in 2012, so I chose them again.I got the valuation back yesterday and they said that even thou the market is still strong there is no change on the valuation. Has the Banksy "original"art market stalled, or should I get it revalued by someone else.If so can anyone recommend an insurance approved valuer..
Thanks

I'll also need a valuation for insurance, they've never asked for one previously, so never needed one, Who is the specialist in these nowadays? sothebys? christies, bonhams?
