Dotdotdot... why are people buying this???, by Deleted on Dec 31, 2013 10:52:48 GMT 1, @freerange i've been pretty polite to everyone if they agree with me or not, but you seem to be trying to push another agenda.i have no previous form for trying to start anti anything threads here and have come to the defence of a few artists in the past.
if anyone is trying to be anti anything calling Hush "manga tits" in every post seems like anti-hush to me even though this thread has nothing to do with Hush
real debate and decussion should be welcomed but some people on the forum always seem to fack it up for the rest of us and people wonder why so many forum members just don't bother posting, i'll tell you people fear of being shouted down by big mouths ready to throw their 10cents worth in, just because someone has 1000 posts doesn't mean that they have any more knowledge than forum members with 1 or no posts.
anyway i won't comment any further, happy new year all.

Dotdotdot... why are people buying this???, by Deleted on Dec 31, 2013 11:24:04 GMT 1, Eh.
the dot dot dot prints are ยฃ100 when released and far superior in print quality to that dface print to be honest. not seen the hush, but i assumed his stuff was giglee. You cant compare faile printing to dot dot dot... Why would the napoleon print need to be 27 screens.
So your talking money rather than art.
thats fine, but just remember that it is a fickle market. One day dotdotdot might outsell manga tits. Then it will be the more expensive print. it is swings and roundabouts - if your a speculator you might take the risk and trade up for a newcomer.
just saying.
Yes you were comparing print quality - which is a non issue. Artists can print 80 pissing screens, it makes no odds to the image. You were also comparing price, which you were also wrong on as all of those you quoted cost more than any dot dot dot print from source.
and lastly. You smell.
Kopite, i think you initially tried to get an anti-dot dot dot thread going but you have found yourself in a roundabout way explaining why you do not like his stuff.
Why not just say that, there is nothing wrong with it.
why do you need others to explain to you why people are buying? The answer to that is.... For many different reasons and all different from each other. If you prefer droopy manga tits, then stick to that. Buy what you like, not everyone else.
Nothing wrong with manga tits
this has been your contribution to the thread @freerange...
seems to me you might be heavily invested in dotdotdot, i'm sure you will be able to swap them for a banski in the near future...

Dotdotdot... why are people buying this???, by iamzero on Dec 31, 2013 11:24:11 GMT 1, One of the reasons I like eBay auctions is because it acts as a great leveller for prices. It's all very well claiming a certain print is worth ยฃ1000 and having it sat on a buy it now endlessly while an auction version of the same piece only usually reaches half that if you're lucky.
My point being its only worth what someone else is willing to pay, why be offended if someone offers you a DDD piece in trade? You don't have to value you it as such and can refuse, on the other hand it could be just what you're looking for.

Dotdotdot... why are people buying this???, by cellular on Dec 31, 2013 12:34:43 GMT 1, When it comes to this forum and hype, look what Graffiti Prints have done. The promotion techniques are simple, long threads where they give away an item/s lots of people adding to thread and more publicity for the gallery and artist at basically no cost - sure fire winner. Look how they went with Whatson after eternal reflection. Hit it just at the right time with him and got in there. Produced many things since with Whatson, bit Emporers new cloths to me, did you ever see an uglier angel , but it's looks great if you've bought eternal reflection because no one surely would want to protect that prints price and be derogatory towards the work of the artist??? This is basic commerce and when it comes to this forum Graffiti Prints have played a blinder.

Saggy manga tits.... Could do with more.
bit of sick came up when you mentioned the word invested. reminds me of the time a certain forum member was caught talking about investing in art and how others should try flipping (as they appreciate more than stocks) on an oily shares forum elsewhere.
bleugh.

This is basic commerce and when it comes to this forum Graffiti Prints have played a blinder. seems unfair we have not intentionally played this forum you give us too much credit.
our only strategy has been to make great prints with no restrictions on colours as we thought the print market had become a little stale with 2 - 6 colour screen prints selling for ยฃ200 - ยฃ500 from source.
we wanted to introduce screen prints un restricted by colours at the best possible price we could together with the artist and we feel we achieved our goal and were building on it as much as we can.
we have experimented all year with different techniques and had a really fun year, yes we want to show off our product and promote it, anyone would if your super proud of what you produce.
we have just finished a 36 colour screen print with sandra chevrier that finished our year on a massive high and pushed the barrier further forward even more as technically this was soooo hard to make and was a serious stop start process till every one of the 36 colours was right.
again the price will reflect our commitment to make affordable art no matter how many screens or how hard it was to make.
here is a sneak peak of a finished test print we ok'ed just before we put the last 6 colours on.
terrible pic in terrible light but you get the idea they are in transit to canada now end jan release planned.
we are still going to do a giveaway on one of these, if anyone can think of a way of it not clogging up the last 100 posts we are in favour of it as long as its not pm, it can be a nightmare when a few giveaways are going on here and all you read is i'm in etc.
sorry for the long post

Just post a new subject and get people to like that initial post. Gives you the entrants names and doesn't clog up the boards with needless lists of names and also does away with people getting bumped off the list or missing a number spot. If people want to comment, diss, hype or moan on any other related topic, it's business as per usual.

Just an idea if you use something like mailchimp? So create a mailing list signup page just for the give away like faile do.

Dotdotdot... why are people buying this???, by Deleted on Dec 31, 2013 15:20:55 GMT 1, 'we are still going to do a giveaway on one of these, if anyone can think of a way of it not clogging up the last 100 posts we are in favour of it as long as its not pm, it can be a nightmare when a few giveaways are going on here and all you read is i'm in etc.' Just post a new subject and get people to like that initial post. Gives you the entrants names and doesn't clog up the boards with needless lists of names and also does away with people getting bumped off the list or missing a number spot. If people want to comment, diss, hype or moan on any other related topic, it's business as per usual. best idea so far i think anymore?ย
Perfect solution - I love the comps but not the scrolling.

Dotdotdot... why are people buying this???, by Limited Prints on Dec 31, 2013 15:21:55 GMT 1, When it comes to this forum and hype, look what Graffiti Prints have done. Yes and GP had a gun to everyones head who bought. Marketing masters, im sure you guys sit around stroking your cats with those big deep laughs. 100 gdp for a print.....cheap if you ask me. when you figure they probally split with artist, the cost of printing ie paper, paint, machine, overhead and insurances, employees...shipping....which at 10 gpb to the U.S. im pretty sure is under cost. no ones getting rich. It is alright to make a living....no...?? bringing out newer artist at great great great prices that our instiantly going up in value. for shame gp for shame on you........(j/k defo sarcasm....) I have ER's and angel because I like them. Didn't go for a framed, which everyone else seemed to like where I didn't.

This is basic commerce and when it comes to this forum Graffiti Prints have played a blinder. Not as simple as that but quite spot on. Personally I don't have anything against GP (actually well played) but i'm quite sorry for some folks over here.
With so many "galleries" and their friends being involved on this forum it is difficult to be it any other way. I am sure older members can see past this and have seen it many times before. Mind you, funny enough, some old members realised that and are actually behind this all.ย However, there is obviously a market for it but please people don't believe everything being said here (especially when it comes to what has been sold, for how much, how great it is that the edition has sold out in super fast time or how good investment it might be). Smoke and mirrors comes to my mind.
The way I see it - most of the artists which appeared and being promoted here in the last few years are heavily influenced by first (Warhol, Basquiat, Haring...) and mainly by the second wave of commercially successful street artists (Banksy, Bast, Shep, Kaws, Faile...). Sure there are few exceptions but majority won't be heard of in a few years time. Their work is very much average (if so). Would it regularly make its way to the major action houses or will it find the way into museums or major collector's collections? Very much doubt it. If you like it fair enough (I know, I know we all like different things) but if you want to capitalise, do it is whilst it is still hot.

Dotdotdot... why are people buying this???, by Deleted on Jan 5, 2014 19:59:16 GMT 1, 10 years or so ago, people, for whatever reason, took to liking the clean form and irreverent content of this offshoot of graffiti called "Stencil Art". In Norway, Dolk, Pรธbel & Martin Whatson, influenced by Banksy but equally by the Melbourne Stencil Art Scene of the time, took to the form. Each developed their own recognisable style and over the last ten years have built a small but dedicated following. Dot Dot Dot meanwhile was part of a serious graffiti crew, painting trains, doing time etc etc. Like most good writers, a sensitive vandal. In 2007 he tried his hand at Stencil Art. He enjoyed it, so he continued, whilst also continuing in the crew. It was difficult for him to make the switch, it takes balls to leave a hardcore graffiti crew to make stencils. Peer pressure is HUGE. But he persevered, got himself a shared studio space and started working on canvas. Over the past few years he's become very very good at it. You may not notice just how good unless you have a work in front of you.
If you're a fan of "Stencil Art" and you've seen his work, you'll know what I'm talking about.
As for "why are people buying it"...There are 100s of thousands of dedicated Street Art fans, many are also "Stencil Art" fans, and in spite of what it may seem, there are very few stencil artists out there making good quality street and studio work. Dot Dot Dot is.
