Boycott , do you ... , by Deleted on Aug 20, 2013 22:39:07 GMT 1, Iceland (the shop not the country). Went in there the other day for the first time in years and never will again. I've never so seen such a chav-fest in my life, I felt very out of place as I wasn't wearing a onesie and didn't have a 2 year old daughter with pierced ears called Mercedes with me Still, it was interesting to see where all those people you see who wear their trousers half way down to their knees and have the latest Elizibeth Duke sovereign ring go to get their food from !
Personally I boycott bigotry

Oh really? I'd boycott people with a severe lack of a sense of humour myself.
And another one for you DD - people who have multiple usernames on forums

I know he's closed his DD account now but for a long time he had two accounts going at the same time.
Why he did this is anyone's guess! Maybe he'll tell us one day.

I simply moved, somehow got locked out of that acct and opened a new one. I hope you're a big enough man to stop now and leave it be, seeing as I've been big enough to explain.

For the record, this could also be categorized as an American comedy.

Boycott , do you ... , by Deleted on Aug 21, 2013 14:36:50 GMT 1, Big up dotdot for starting this thread! Would love to see more threads like this on the forum.
www.ethicalconsumer.org/commentanalysis/corporatewatch/isittimetoboycottamazon.aspx
Please take 2 minutes to read the link page and I'd personally like to thank Nuart 2013 for making me aware of that website. It really does help to make informed choices.
When it comes to spending money it comes down to education and personal but also collective responsibility. I do so wish that more people would care about others and not just themselves. We all should know by now that there are massive systemic problems that benefit business and not society. We all should know by now that our politicians are not going to do anything about these problems until the country's population care enough and understand how unfair it is and that they can actually do things to help. As said earlier, these big corporations have the money to influence politicians and that is why the things they do are amoral but not illegal. Currently it is only the wealthiest 30% of the population that have any real political influence. That is bonkers. It doesn't help that the majority of people, (the 70% who currently have no influence), are being taught to be individuals and not to care about others, in their own street let alone people being exploited in other countries. It really really isn't hard to start to do things in different ways. You may have to pay a little more for the same product but the money you pay will be fair and the money you would have saved won't be ripping anyone off. Buy products from your own country whenever you can. There is far too much abuse going on in Asia. It's not fair/right and it doesn't have to happen. The extra money created by paying fair taxes could/should go towards helping Asia not exploiting it.

Boycott , do you ... , by dotdot on Aug 21, 2013 15:15:31 GMT 1, oh and once youve read the link from hs above.
do take sometime to check out 38degrees. Something I'd never heard of until just after i sent out the thread start yesterday....
a few words to add.
surprised the name NESTLE has not be mentioned - i reckon they may be so heavily ingrained in some to have forgotten about them and their behaviour over the past.. few DECADES.
(ala NEWS INT / Murdoch / etc al).
On a more contemporay note - ZERO HOURS contracts .. & their damage and benefit to those who wish to impose them on their employees (?).
Far be it for me to say how bad or good they are - you might wish to question ... yourself .. and think would it benefit you if you had one and wished to live to the means you do currently ?
Either way the thread was intended to hear strong views.. this is not an easy time for some to have ANY VIEWS so .. spew forth and remind yourself if you can't be who you are.. then you might as well buy the new MBW print... (yes i know it's painful, but some do..)
(the Iceland swerve was funny btw..)
a few more names to roll off the heid.
++ Mark Thomas - he's in Edinburgh... if you're in town on THUR .. check out what he's up to.
-- ABF heard of them... ? check them out - then add them to your list.

(yes i know it's painful, but some do..) A very interesting point dotdot.
We're living through very intolerant times at the moment, and just questioning certain things attracts abuse, and the threat of violence. For example, a pub in Leicester who's Facebook page was hacked claiming they weren't prepared to serve military personnel was subject to the most vitriolic abuse and threats.
Consider the recent detention of the Brazilian journalist and the forces that work to monitor his movements.
And yet just questioning what is going on is deemed a treasonable offence. You're either for us, or against. Under the guise of security, the state and its police are being allowed to slowly erode our liberties.
Governments are absolving themselves of responsibilities, prefering to use the free market as an argument for failing to do their job, i.e the blame lies at the individual institution - not the fact that the Government oversees them.
Why was Jimmy Carr targeted as a tax avoider - he was only doing what institutions do. Yet he was targeted by Cameron and the media as immoral and 'unpatriotic.' Yet the failing is that of the state in allowing such systems to exist.
Just think about how this Government passes the blame.

Would love to know amboguy's thoughts on secure.38degrees.org.uk/page/s/stop-fire-service-privatisation#petition
It seems to anyone who would like to start thinking and acting about these issues that the little they could do will have no effect whatsoever so they may as well not bother. It simply is not true. It's just what the powers that be want you to believe. It works. You can see how it works for Tesco so use it for good. EVERY LITTLE HELPS. We should want to do the right thing for everyone and not just the quick, cheap, easy thing for ourselves. It doesn't feel good to do the wrong thing.Help yourself.

Any American comedy, what absolute trash....... A vote for tesco here too, cos they are trying to take over the world, arse holes There is more, back later lol Seinfeld? Curb Your enthusiasm? Arrested Development? I took his comment as a joke. But I would add to the list:

Also, the American versions of The Office and Shameless are much better than the original British versions
