Sorry to be a pedant but I thought 'Ship Shape and Bristol fashion' meant tidy and orderly (because that's what Bristol's docks were known for) rather than any kind of a reference to strength.

Hi Feralthings,  your right! but.... So is the artist...

The term “shipshape” refers to the neat order; “Bristol fashion” refers to the critical specifications that ships had to meet before entering Bristol Harbour. The phrase in its entirety means “neat, tidy and well-stowed”…
