This show has been running in Edinburgh since early November (his first Scottish exhibition) . I managed to get along a few weeks ago. Fantastic to see his work in the flesh, and jeez, the size!!!

Harland Miller: Overcoming Optimism

3 November 2012 - 26 January 2013

For Harland Miller’s first exhibition in Scotland, Ingleby Gallery presents a group of new paintings alongside a selected survey of the artist’s work across several years. Common to all of these paintings is a basic structure of shape borrowed from decades of Penguin paperbacks: a motif that automatically suggests a very British kind of nostalgia, but which Miller turns back on itself with invented titles that prove the dictum that you can’t judge a book, or a painting at least, by its cover.

No, it's just a rather basic bittersweet basic message aimed solely at all of us who love a 'slightly' (but obviously not too much) edgy line to raise a slight chuckle.

At that price, love should really be replaced by cash, thinking about it, it really would be much more edgy with that ...

Art is subjective and its all about supply/demand...that being said I can't believe the prices that Harland's works go for! 3000 for an edition of 50??

Exhibition looks great, and so do the print! Price is quite high but it is a 16 colours print, and the result looks awesome. I wish i could buy one, i dream about an Harland miller for quite some time now...

His last release, which was £3k originally and is now £3k plus VAT (I think I am right re the pre release price) is slightly bigger and 15 colour. On his website it is still available, in fact 45 of the edition of 50 are still available so maybe the upshift in pricing has been a bit too fast for the market. I love Harland's work, should have bought a few pieces 18 months ago when they were more affordable / realistically priced, but not to worry.

I was in there yesterday with the missus. Absolutely fantastic.

His stock is definitely on the rise. There were two oils on canvas sold at Philips de Pury in October and November last year. "Too Cool to Die" achieved £43,250 in October (a new auction record for the artist) and then Plan B achieved $80.5k (just under £50k) in New York in November.

Very fond of my latest Harland Miller purchase and had a very specific idea of how I wanted it framed so took it down to John Jones to have the mount wrapped in linen & framed in a raw oak frame. Now up on the wall & couldn't be happier.

That looks Lovely. it's always good to see a print that's framed with a personal touch.
But you should shoot it again and replace the diet coke with a nice bottle of red.

how much were the paintings going for at the gallery? were they all sold?

The oil on canvas are 40k and 50k plus vat

The cheapest is the watercolour of the car boot print that is 15k plus vat (not including the prints)

Ah mate, if I'd have known I could've shouted you a local ale or 2! That indeed was my scrawls in the Guest Book.
