THE CHRISTMAS GHETTO - POW - LAZARIDES + OTHERS, by brooksie82 on Nov 7, 2012 12:28:23 GMT 1, POW is so damn boring these days, theres no edge to it any more, you've got to make appointments to go in there, and when you are in there everyones pretty rude and boring, its just a business now.
Santa's Ghettos have been getting more and more boring as well, granted the one in Jerusalem was interesting but we've not had a proper one for years!

THE CHRISTMAS GHETTO - POW - LAZARIDES + OTHERS, by Deleted on Nov 7, 2012 12:32:40 GMT 1, I love how people complain about threads like this. Isn't it the same as those who complain about something on tv? Just don't watch, ignore it, and read other threads... Personally, I love threads like this. I love the anticipation, the gossip, the in-the-knows, the complaining, the joy of the few that score the print they want, the slating of POW, the queue rumours, the glitter fiascos. Love it all. I genuinely wish there were more threads like this. Not living in London anymore (or even the UK) I have no chance of going to these shows, so I really do appreciate all the pictures that get posted... And we still have not solved some of the big mysteries of our time such as: - Whatever happened to those unreleased Banksy LA prints (festival and sales end)?
- Why did those gorilla prints get scrapped? (clearly it was never a glitter issue)
- Why are most POW prints complete gash, and who buys them?
- Why doesn't Banksy do an open, unsigned release for charity? (ok, this is my personal bugbear, but I do wonder why he doesn't)
So thank you Freerange for starting this thread. And I look forward to it reaching 100 pages asap!
Come of it NM, a thread like this always pops up each year around this time, and its usually Freerange who starts it, and its not done to start a conversation, but more so to start the mudslinging towards POW/Banksy, and its usually followed by a big hype thread for another gash artists print release.

True but at least it unleashes passion! Sorry chap, but I love the hype around the Ghetto. (As I imagine do POW). And I promise not to throw any mud!

I have no history of starting the xmas thread and its nothing more than to get everyone going. Its been like a tumbleweed round here lately.
I really hope theres not a banksy actually as it will mean less pressure on others and a nice calm experience not having to worry about a queue. I would love to see something special from invader, not just a character. And would love to see a new dran.
Still holding out hope that tilt might do something sweet and i still check the hewlett page, that would be extra sweet.
Just saying that its the 10th anniversary of pow i think, so it might be a spectacular??

why do you think I said 'done right' , it's possible to think about how an idea can be moved from one medium to another for maximum effect

THE CHRISTMAS GHETTO - POW - LAZARIDES + OTHERS, by nex on Nov 8, 2012 10:18:36 GMT 1, This thread is proof that POW's marketing (or lack of info and clarity) works perfectly. Wallets at the ready..BUY BUY BUY (and the majority will be sold on for less in January).
are you moaning that ppl are discussing something on a forum about urban art? you may have to reaccess exactly what urban art is ...I'll give you a clue it's not street art

THE CHRISTMAS GHETTO - POW - LAZARIDES + OTHERS, by Trevorm on Nov 8, 2012 10:43:14 GMT 1, My mate Kev reckons that he's located half a skip load of shredded 'quality' paper with evidence of glitter on parts of it, in a location just off Commercial Street E1. He tells me that the predominant colour, of the glitter, is pink but that there are some other colour(ways) with a few gold and silver + a few that could be white - he wonders if these might have been for VIP's.......
Anyway, he further tells me that he's starting to put them back together using special sellotape(?) and this amazing cream that he manufactures himself - not too sure about this but I'll try and find out more later.
Kev reckons that he'll have some available for Friday 14th December but this may have to be deferred if he has trouble with production. He's going to call in to POW, to see if they can lend a hand, if he can get a response.
More later, watch this space. Trev

THE CHRISTMAS GHETTO - POW - LAZARIDES + OTHERS, by rottenredrooster on Nov 8, 2012 11:15:57 GMT 1, Calm down! It was a mere observation from my last 5 years on the forum. I didn't realize that I could only be overly enthusiastic about POW and the buying mentality of this forum.
People in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones.
I would have thought the buying mentality would do you a favour what with you knocking out everything all and sundry.
As a matter of fact I'm in the buying mood. So how about ยฃ6.50 for the Obey flyer?
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-SIGNED-SHEPARD-FAIREY-OBEY-SOUND-VISION-LONDON-EXHIBITION-SHOW-CARD-/400328515386?pt=Art_Prints&hash=item5d35705f3a&_uhb=1
Anyway, I'm sure whatever happens, Pictures on Walls will be producing some catalogues this year. Always a couple of quid in those. Eh, Eh.

THE CHRISTMAS GHETTO - POW - LAZARIDES + OTHERS, by stickitup on Nov 8, 2012 12:20:14 GMT 1, I used to work at a factory making the glue they used for some envelopes...Although it wasn't common practice if someone was having a bad day they might spit in the glue...which I must admit was diluted enough to probably never make the journey into your envelopes glue, but it must have made it into someones...and the kind of characters which worked there might have made you reconsider licking the envelopes, they were not slim attractive blonde women with bubble butts and pert...well you get the idea

THE CHRISTMAS GHETTO - POW - LAZARIDES + OTHERS, by Happy Shopper on Nov 8, 2012 12:30:24 GMT 1, Whilst the glitter gorilla might get a lot of talk, I wonder if we'll see the other 2 prints that were supposed to be released in 'early' 2012..
I wouldn't be surprised if all three (or at least the Banksy and Lister) get released this year. Maybe there'll be a second Banksy... but I won't hold my breath.
I think they just decided they'd done enough last year, and put a hold on a few things.

THE CHRISTMAS GHETTO - POW - LAZARIDES + OTHERS, by stickitup on Nov 8, 2012 14:12:48 GMT 1, the amount of bad publicity each banksy release gets these days for whatever reason, it seems likely he may not do any more, he certainly doesn't need to. And in all fairness the Banksy thing does feel at times like it is stagnating due to print releases

I hardly call grown men wailing like little children bad publicity - just pathetic.(the stagnating bit you'll have to explain).

They just need to do it fairly.
The draw is pretty fair but it should be more transparent and they should keep to the rules... And only accept card payment. No cash and it would stop the gangs.

Maybe there will be something else if prints have run their course.
It is weird though for an artist to not release any work, so there will be something in the future. I have no recollection of any artist who has stopped producing pieces to sell. There are still commissions by the looks of it, but this is hardly reaching your self proclaimed market of the normal guy.
He must just look at people like mr brainwash and obey thinking its been done before and is to expected. Prints have become a bit of a cliche of themselves. Especially when everyone thinks a street piece can translate easily to paper. The olympics pieces were good (and in the u.s.a by the way) but they would not have worked out of context.
We will soon find out as banksy pops up just before a print at xmas with a new street piece.

'What the hell am i thinking?'
Makes you wonder if he felt pressured to release something, no idea why that one would be a good choice though. The punk mum is so obviously a classic.
