AMAZING ARTIST!.....PAUL WRIGHT!.....THOUGHTS???, by origo on Sept 9, 2008 17:48:38 GMT 1, But 1800 for a 15 x 10 cm canvas.
I would have a hard time finding it after hanging it.

Great skills though one to watch?

Billy exhibits at Marlborough Gallery, Gladstone Gallery, and Regen Projects, he was also shown in the 2006 Whitney Biennial. Billy and this guy have similar enough styles, buy what you like, but be smart enough to weigh everything out...

AMAZING ARTIST!.....PAUL WRIGHT!.....THOUGHTS???, by taxidermot on Sept 10, 2008 17:48:21 GMT 1, there are plenty of fine portrait painters but why would you want a straight (well accomplished) portrait of anysomeone hanging in your house a self-portrait of artist or a banging portrait of yourself or family yes but a friend of the artist or some legend geezer or geezeress or a musical/historic/cinematic/whatever hero....? why bother?

Paul Wright - fabulous portraits! In many cases I certainly have a tough time hanging a portrait at home, of anyone other than someone known and important to me (basically my family members). However, I do feel that part of the charm of Matt Small's work is that the subjects themselves are very much anonymous and secondary to the incredible method and technique he employs to create his oil paintings. I think there are some other exceptions for me, when the work is something I percieve as special. Denning also paints (in some cases) pictures of peoples' heads, but his work is so poignantly able to create mood and that's what art's about for me. So yes, I do agree with you where most artists and photographers are concerned, but don't agree that (for my own tastes) as a blanket statement it holds true.

Difference between people who like pretty pictures and art...that sounds snobby but I think it is true.

AMAZING ARTIST!.....PAUL WRIGHT!.....THOUGHTS???, by Agent Provocateur on Oct 23, 2008 20:14:52 GMT 1, IMO I'm surprised no one's made the connection with Mr L Freud... I really like the style and have seen quite a few artists adopt the large, rough, clearly delineated brush strokes with a range of colours (I made that last line up ) as it's a technique taught at art college. Freud tho I feel has mastered this style, he even does similar compositions of people lying in crumpled beds/sofas. Don't get me wrong tho, I really like the style and this work is superb, plus much more affordable than a Freud
