PENNY Show "Economy Of Scale" 17th May, by atomone on Apr 21, 2012 9:43:41 GMT 1, Met up for a few beers with Penny yesterday and he kindly shared some of his new works with me for his upcoming show...have to admit...a little bit of wee fell out as I was too excited! ;D
The show is gonna be a knockout with some amazing pieces and surprises in store...it's not your usual exhibition and has some great interactive ideas and chances to own his works...
It will be at Rook and Raven in London on Thursday May 17th, will post proper details once I have them but thought i'd give you all a heads up for the diary now...
See you there...

Very exciting indeed, you have to tell us more ! ;-)
Will be able to reveal a bit more about it over the next 2 weeks as he is still flat out painting and organising the props, wouldn't wanna spoil the fun for everyone. Parts of the show will have an amusement element to it and there will also be a secret release that you will have to hunt down and work out... It's gonna be a really exciting show and a must see for any Penny fans!
He hasn't had a print release for over 7 months and some of the works in the show have literally taken a year to cut out! There will be around 40 original pieces on sale and lots of other goodies that will be there on the night...watch this space...

PENNY Show "Economy Of Scale" 17th May, by Stoko on Apr 21, 2012 17:50:58 GMT 1, Has he changed his style any? Been doing the bank notes thing for a while now and - although they are all excellent - would be nice to see a new twist. Best stencil artist about IMO. Will deffo try and get down for this.

He's a terrific guy (been chatting with him via Facebook). The bank notes are indeed my favorite pieces, so I hope he doesn't abandon them completely!

Yeah he is a top guy and I really hope his show is as successful as it deserves to be because the level of creative stencil work blew me away!
I have to agree with you swabie, I have seen a few varied styles of his work and the pieces on notes are my faves too and luckily they still play a big part in the show. There are British notes, there are the trademark Dollar notes and sheets of varied currencies...there is even a rare note dating back centuries and is worth over 400 quid before it's even been painted! There is his trademark renaissance style, also some fun ideas on notes involving the queen, some cult figures and a gimp pig to boot! There are framed works with actual butterflies in them, and there will be a lot of random goodies which will give people the opportunity to bag a Penny and not leave the show empty handed...

PENNY Show "Economy Of Scale" 17th May, by deltaone on Apr 22, 2012 4:54:51 GMT 1, wondering if there will be an "exploding stencil" on display.. not a literal explosion but the multiple layers of the stencil all lined up leading to the image it came together to create?

Yeah I'd love to see more of his work in progress. For those after a bit of penny don't Brooklynite do penny snub noses for $20?

Think it's the 17th dappy? I will find out for sure and confirm it, I think he wants to keep it fair and give everyone the opportunity to buy his work on the launch night...at the moment I would take 17th as the preview opening night. He did mention you the other day dappy, and I know there are going to be be 25 'special' invitations sent out prior to the show...

PENNY Show "Economy Of Scale" 17th May, by jonnyx on Apr 22, 2012 19:19:37 GMT 1, stuff like willard wigan does makes me feel a bit queasy. everything's just too scaled down it makes my sense of proportion go all out of whack. (oh and i just can't get my head round how it's done).
also, what an odd website for it to be reported by!!

PENNY Show "Economy Of Scale" 17th May, by brianfantana on Apr 26, 2012 13:42:10 GMT 1, The Directors of Rook & Raven Gallery invite you to the private view of
PENNY
'Economy of Scale’
Private View: Thursday 17th May 18:30 – 21:30
‘Economy of scale’ is the first solo exhibition from the multidisciplinary artist Penny, featuring a plethora of work from the London-based artist, including his signature intricately-cut stencils, mixed media works with currency, taxidermy butterflies, and for the first time a display of his process works and stencil skeletons.
Penny’s first major display of work will make wry reference to everything from religion, the Renaissance and the Victorian era, featuring a pick and mix Penny Shop, where a selection of smaller-scale works will be on sale alongside the main body of artwork; and of course, no show would be complete without a new selection of Penny’s highly sought-after single note currency and his now signature works on uncut sheets of dollars, sourced directly from the Federal Reserve. Economy of Scale is itself a paradigm, showcasing small stencils, big ideas and the notion that currency itself can become a work of art, which in turn becomes more valuable when altered. After all, the devil is in the detail.
Economy of Scale opens to the public on the 18th of May at Rook & Raven Gallery through to June 21st 2012. Private View takes place on 17th May from 6.30pm until 9.30pm.

No, not at all, it's just a little luxury invite that will go to people that Penny wants to invite personally, the people that have bought his work in the past and the people that may not be on the forum or mailing list for Rook & Raven and so may not be aware of it...it's pure indulgence from his side...
